Konkan Dance by Amancio D'Silva (from which the track "A Street In Bombay" on Impressed with Gilles Peterson 2 was taken) will be available on CD in february, from the Vocalion label.

A limited edition L.P. will follow in the summer, on the q-bico label.

The record was Amancio's last Lansdowne recording as leader, and features his composition entirely, with a mix of western and Indian instrumentation, and Amancio on acoustic and electric guitar throughout. Guests/sidemen include Don rendal, Clem Alford, Stan Tracy and Alan Branscombe. recorded as well as we can place in 1972. Very chilled album, the rest being along similar lines to A Street In Bimbay if you've heard that.

I wonder if there will be any other releases forthcoming on Vocalion with this issue? They are definitely on a major roll at present. Hopefully they will get the rights to issue a few missing Fontanas (e.g. Cleopatras Needle and Windmill Tilter).

:eye::excited:

Just posted by Roger on 'the other board' (sorry Roger if I beat you to it but it's great news). Vol 3 of 'Impressed' is in the works from Universal UK.

"Hi Roger -

I hope you are well and thanks for your message.

Yes, we are working on a Vol.3 which will be coming out late summer/autumn and we will be doing a batch of seven re-issues. Subject to various issues, we hope these will be -

Neil Ardley - A Symphony of Amaranths

New Jazz Orchestra - Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe

Dick Morrissey - Storm Warning

Dick Morrissey - Here and Now and Sounding Good

Don Rendell Quintet - Spacewalk

Mike Taylor 'Pendulum'

Joe Harriott/Amancio D'Silva 'Hum Dono'

I'll keep you posted once nearer to a confirmed release date.

With regards - Kevin.

btw: is there a list (or even better would be a website) with all the Universal UK Jazz reissues? I've never seen such a list and would be very glad if anyone had a list!

Off the top of my head:

'Impressed' Vols 1 and 2 Compilations

Mike Tayor 'Trio'

Mike Westbrook 'Celebration'

Michael Garrick 'Troppo'

Amancio D'Silva 'Integration'

Neil Ardley 'Greek Variations'

There might be others but they elude me for the moment. All of the above are rare to mega rare on vinyl.

The new list is very exciting indeed. The Mike Taylor 'Pendulum' is eagerly awaited, as well as the Morrisseys (Dick, that is - not the gloomy singer). 'Storm Warning' is one that I've wanted for years.

The one by the New Jazz Orchestra is a big favourite of mine and is absolutely superb ! Very rare UK Verve release when it came out on LP.

I wonder what will be on the Volume 3 'Impressed'? Hopefully stuff by Ronnie Ross, the London Jazz Four, Cosmic Eye Dream Sequence and more Joe Harriott, perhaps?

That's all? I figured they were as many or more as the Vocalions!

The only one I have so far is "Greek Variations" - pretty nice one, but not as good as some of the other UK things I've got - my favourites are the two Rendell/Carr twofers on BGO and all the stuff I have so far of Joe Harriott, both on ReDial CDs as well as with Michael Garrick's band.

Ubu, a lot more stuff has come out on Vocalion than on Universal. The 'Hum Dono' has been in the pipeline for a long time now so I'm treating it with some caution until I see a firm release date. The original story I got was that the tapes had been lost.

With the exception of 'Troppo' and Norma Winstone's 'Edge of Time, all of the Argo material seems to have come out on Vocalion.

'Greek Variations' is a real nice one. I've got that one on an original vinyl, along with 'Dejeuner' and 'Symphony of Amaranths'. You could say I am a bit of a Neil Ardley nut.

Wish Universal would put out the Neil Ardley 'Timewind - Mike Taylor Remembered' from about 1973 (posthumous Taylor tribute). Before his sad passing away, Neil Ardley issued this one as a private issue and one track only was put on one of the 'Impressed' compilations. It needs to get wider release.

Yes, this Mike Taylor tribute is lovely. I bought it direct from Neil several years ago.

BTW the recent re-release of Mike Taylor's quartet recording, 'Pendulum' on Sunbeam Records is wonderful. He really is a lost talent.
