slide_advantage_redoux Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 Dinah Washington singing All of Me. http://tinyurl.com/pu23p The vibes player is Terry Gibbs (I think). There is Urbie Green on trombone. It doesn't make sense (especially after hearing him play), but I swear that the drummer is Max Roach. It looks like him anyway. Quote

JSngry Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 Man, look who else was in that movie! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0161612/fullcredits That was an MGM (as in Verve) picture, so there you go! Also, The Animals (who were on MGM proper) were in the film, so there you go again! Quote
Big Wheel Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 The Muppets exploring music as only they could I remember watching this years and years ago and the tune stuck with me ever since......too see it again.......*sniff* made me all sentimental Dig the Lullaby of Birdland quote in one of the interludes. JSngry Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Here's a curiosity: Cut out of a 1973 TV special "We Love You Madly." I remember watching that show when it aired. Boy was I pissed. Quote
slide_advantage_redoux Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 A concert aired by the Norwegian broadcast company of Monk in Oslo playing Blue Monk (over 10 minutes) Great close ups of Charlie Rouse. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxrXUxhTj80...elonious%20monk Quote
Epithet Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Not jazz, but I guess some of the stuff in this thread isn't jazz either: Quote
slide_advantage_redoux Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 I have been digging Raymond Scott for a long time, but this is the first time I became aware of any video clips. This is some pretty wild stuff! Dig the bizarre club scene with the tap dancing "Indians" Brilliant! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 For Big Al: Styx, live in Lansing, MI just a few weeks ago at the Common Ground festival. You have to watch until the end, where the Dennis DeYoung-replacement model 2000 totally biffs the high-note. Quote
DukeCity Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 Not on YouTube, but an awesome video of a young Frank Zappa on the old Steve Allen show, playing a concerto for bicycle, electronic tape, and ensemble. Steve keeps calling him "Frank Zahpa" Zappa on Steve Allen Quote

Steve keeps calling him "Frank Zahpa" Zappa on Steve Allen Off topic, sorry: Isn't kind of amazing how far Steve Allen's coolness factor has dropped in the years after his death? I remember growing up that he was hailed as a genius, and very hip -- now he seems so very dated. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 For Big Al: Styx, live in Lansing, MI just a few weeks ago at the Common Ground festival. You have to watch until the end, where the Dennis DeYoung-replacement model 2000 totally biffs the high-note. Here's something to comtemplate: which would you rather be: A Dennis DeYoung imitator, or a Steve Perry imitator? On a completely unrelated note, my daughter has recently started playing Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" on the piano. My wife and I almost immediately started singing excerpts from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce2qRtdaZfg My daughter's reaction? , followed by Quote
Chas Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 The Wynton Kelly Trio ( Trane heard briefly ) . Wynton Kelly = Effortless swing + pure joy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBwrv6RtvtA Quote
Jim R Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 The site was just down for a day or so, for some sort of revamping/improvement. Upon returning today, I don't really see anything new or improved (except that some of my favorite videos seem to have vanished... not sure if that's a coincidence or not). Anybody notice anything different? Quote
Swinging Swede Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 The Wynton Kelly Trio ( Trane heard briefly ) . Wynton Kelly = Effortless swing + pure joy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBwrv6RtvtA That's the concert where Stan Getz joined the Coltrane group (or should I say Miles-less Miles group?) on two numbers (and Oscar Peterson replaced Kelly on the last of those two). I think someone mentioned on this board recently that a video exists. A DVD should come out of this concert! Quote
Robert J Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 (edited) That Wynton Kelly Trio video was great! Jim - I started noticing earlier this week that many videos were gone. Is there a copyright lawyer combing the site? Plus there are so many dupes (and dopes) hanging around the system. Question - other than subscribing to certain channels, is there a way to search by term and date range of upload (ie "jazz" "july 20-august 4") to find something new?
