Ron S Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 I'm headed out in a sec to pick up Gigolo and maybe Workout even though I have it in another version. I'll pass on Joyride. Then how will you get to the record store? Quote
wesbed Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Just opened my copy of Dexter Gordon's "Gettin' Around." The disc has absolutely no label printed on it. Both sides look the same. The music's there though . . . i have JOS BATCS w/o anything printed on it I almost pre-ordered the new RVGs from CDUniverse. I decided to wait to see if the disks were copy-protected, mis-printed or other. I wonder how many of the disks have no label? Quote
bertrand Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Blue Note is putting out CD-rs now? I guess it's their form of copy protection. Bertrand. Quote
Jazzdog Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 (edited) Did anyone else catch the "Retouched Cover on The Way" note on the front of the Workout cd? Strange, I think I'll wait on it, as I already have the McMaster. Edited February 8, 2006 by Jazzdog Quote
Soul Stream Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 No bash of "Joyride" here. Kenny Burrell on "Gravy Train" smokes that LP into groovesville. I dig the arrangements and band. Good all around stuff. Don't be sold short. Grady Tate on drums in an all too rare Blue Note appearance as well. Quote
scottb Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 The Gigolo is en route!! I can hardly wait! Quote
Soul Stream Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 The Gigolo is en route!! I can hardly wait! Dude, once you get the RVG The Gigilo, what are you going to do with yourself? I mean, for you it's kind of like winning the Superbowl...what's left after that? Quote
David Ayers Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 I heard the RVG of Gigolo in Ray's last week. The remastering was very vivid indeed, though I only heard it on the shop speakers and I didn't buy it. It might not pass the audiophile test but it certainly sounded very exciting! Quote

Brad Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Did anyone else catch the "Retouched Cover on The Way" note on the front of the Workout cd? Strange, I think I'll wait on it, as I already have the McMaster. I saw that and thought it was a bit sloppy. As I have the TOCJ and there's only one alternative take I passed on it. Quote
Brad Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 First time I've heard the Gigolo and it was worth the wait. Not sure the sound will be totally pleasing to audiophiles though. Quote
bertrand Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Who is credited as composer of 'Trapped' on the RVG of the Gigolo? Thanks, Bertrand. Quote

Man with the Golden Arm Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 so if this RVG turns out to be a duck we'll at least know who to blame. Quote

mgraham333 Posted February 8, 2006 Author Report Posted February 8, 2006 Did anyone else catch the "Retouched Cover on The Way" note on the front of the Workout cd? What does this mean? Is there something actually printed on the cover that says that? Can you post an image? My CDUniverse package doesn't arrive until tomorrow.... Quote

I have no idea what that means. Quote
Jazzdog Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 Yeah, it's in white Helvetica right underneatht he Blue Note label. I don't have it in front of me, so that might not be the exact wording and I am not finding a pic online here. It may have just been the pressing that my store received. But it did strike me as odd to see such a notation on a comercially available cd. Quote
Jazzdog Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 (edited) Who is credited as composer of 'Trapped' on the RVG of the Gigolo? Thanks, Bertrand. Trapped is composed by Wayne Shorter on the cd label. Edited February 9, 2006 by Jazzdog Quote

Not sure the sound will be totally pleasing to audiophiles though. i been waitin' for some feedback on that cd.... It sounds good to me! I don't have a high end system right now but I could certainly hear some improvement. Typical RVG treatment- more clarity in the bass, more highs. Quote

bertrand Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 'Trapped is composed by Wayne Shorter on the cd label'. Thanks. I'm glad that got corrected this time around. Bertrand. Quote

I have no idea what that means. Could be that the number in the red oval dot next to Blue Note is different. An LP version I have has 84080 in the dot. The photo on Amazon (if it's right) the number is 37771. Quote
mgraham333 Posted February 9, 2006 Author Report Posted February 9, 2006 (edited) If anyone from BlueNote lurks here - I'd love to hear what our options for replacement CD books are.... Edited February 9, 2006 by mgraham333 Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 here I thought they were photoshopping out the butt and replacing it with a sammich. Quote
