Chalupa Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 I saw this posted on another bulletin board...... -------------------------------- Hey All, I have been searching for Lennie Tristano's "Descent into the Maelstrom" on CD for years, and after much digging around, found that Jazz Records is re-releasing his catalog, so I wrote to them. Here is the reply I received today: "Andy, Jazz Records will be issuing 'Descent into the Maelstrom' as a CD. Hopefully, this will be done within the next year. I would suggest that you check out website from time to time. URL: www.jazzrecordsinc.com Thank you for your interest. Best Regards, Lenny Popkin Jazz Records, Inc." --------------------------------- "next year" = 2006. Quote
Bluerein Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 It was reissued by the Japanese October 2002 in nice DSD remastered sound. The label is East Wind and the catalog number is: UCCJ-9072. Not available through HMV.JP so OOP but maybe Mr.Tanno has a copy left. Quote

felser Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 The live Tristano stuff that made up half an album on Atlantic - has the rest of those sessions ever been released anywhere except on the Mosaic box? Is it in print anywhere today? Quote
Kalo Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 A lot of it was released on an Atlantic double LP in the late 70s/early 80s. That's where (and when) I first got this excellent material. As far as I know, the Mosaic Box is the only currently available source for this music. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Just to be clear, nothing on "Descent into the Maelstrom" was issued on Atlantic or Mosaic. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I have it on the Inner City album. Lousy sound on it--I wonder if the CD release is any better... Quote

I always assumed the lousy sound was because of the sources of the original recordings: private tapes, radio broadcasts, etc. Quote

Bluerein Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 The sound on the CD is not great but listenable. Indeed the source material isn't the best (to say the least). Quote
Clunky Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 picked up a copy of the East Wind issue (on LP for £3) , sound isn't as bad as I'd expected , interesting if pretty dense material not helped by the mid-fi recording quality. Some of the tracks are far better recorded than others Quote
jostber Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 This a fantastic album, some of Tristano's best here. That title song is a sound marvel, I have both the CD and the Inner City vinyl, and think they sound fine. http://www.elsewhere.co.nz/absoluteelsewhe...assical-manner/ Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 the original sound on that pieces was not good - so hopefully it has not been over-restored - Quote
alppila Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 Is the same music on this disc? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000M5KQ7K/ Quote
