I love ALL of these Dagger "authorized" bootlegs!! :tup:tup

I really like this new one too although the sound isn't the best but it's definitely listenable (I never heard the un-authorized bootleg of this concert so I don't have anything to compare it to).

BFrank -- where did you hear about the "speed" issue on this? -- it's hard for me to tell listening to it -- I'm just curious.

John, I love them all too.

That notice about the speed was on the daggerrecord.com pages themselves, a little pop up box used to popup saying there was a problem with the very initial batch of discs pressed, that has been corrected.

I ordered all three of the above mentioned Dagger CDs today, and I got a call a few minutes later confirming my address and telling me that they would send my order out right away.

How nice! :P

Thanks Jazzbo for the answer to the "speed issue" question. :tup:tup

Another great thing about Dagger Records -- I've always had good luck with them in receiving the CD's right away!! It only takes them a couple of days to get the CD to me way down here in Florida (one time I had the CD the next day -- I was amazed)!!!!

Dare I say they've been almost as good as Mosaic in getting the product to me -- awesome!! :excited::tup:tup

I just wish they'd speed up their re-issue program -- I want more!!!

In my defense, I plead that I purchased two other CDs yesterday--admittedly, the other two were used--Muddy Waters, Folk Singer, and Ike Quebec, Heavy Soul--but I drew a line in the sand at four for the day.

Cool.

Don't forget Hear My Music. . . :D

Alright, it's okay. . . four a day. . . seems a reasonable limit! :g

I've had the bootleg for a while. It's listenable. This should be an improvement though. Pretty good performance. . .even though it was a disaster of a day for the band!

Actually there was a discussion about this on the Steve Hoffman Forums message board. I could post a link here if you're interested.

Thanks BFrank for the info. I went to the Steve Hoffman Forum and checked it out. Interesting discussion. Now I'll have to go back and check my disc to see if it has the "speed" issue -- I don't remember this as an issue but I've only listened to it once so far.

Thanks again for the tip off to this!! :tup:tup

Just read the Hoffman forum. . . .It reproduces the Hendrix site message. . . .

I still haven't received mine, but that's good, means I'm going to receive a corrected copy I believe!

Just thought I'd pass along one person's post from the SHF - a sort of mini-review of most (all?) of the Dagger releases.

Here's my .02 on the Dagger titles...

MORNING SYMPHONY IDEAS - Professional multitrack recordings of Jimi with Buddy Miles recorded at the Record Plant in 11/69. GREAT sound quality. It's mastered fairly hot but it doesn't really bother me here. I actually show off my system with this disc. 2 extremely tight, funky, LONG jams. Jimi shows off his bag of riffs with Miles locked in the groove. Jimi's tone is very clean here, no effects, no distortion and no solos, just 40 minutes of incredible riffs and rhythm guitar playing. Also has a 17 minute home recording Jimi did while in Maui in July of 1970. Very good sound quality for a home recording. A very dreamy, laid back jam. Jimi plays an unreleased original called Scorpio Woman that is a wonderful ballad in the tradition of Drifting and Little Wing. Essential.

HEAR MY MUSIC - The focus of this set is on unreleased and (for the most part) unbooted studio material recorded with the original Experience in 1969. These are professional multitrack recordings that sound for the most part sound fantastic. These sessions were for the aborted follow up to Electric Ladyland. While much of this material is exploratory in nature these are NOT loose jams with some guitar noodling - the JHE is in full flight here and the interplay between Jimi and Mitch is at times just amazing.

The highlight of the set for me the early version of Ezy Ryder with Mitch and Noel. Jimi's tone is just to DIE for here. IMO this instrumental run through kills the later versions done with the BOG and Cry of Love band. Jimi just drills the Ezy Ryder riffs into your skull. It's much less funky than later versions but much more rockin'. As the take breaks down Jimi TEARS into the Star Spangled Banner. This will make you forget about the anemic studio version of SSB on Rainbow Bridge. Essential.

This set contains on of my personal Jimi 'holy grails' - the unedited, original version of Trash Man. This inspired jam was one of the last studio recordings of the original Experience. Parts of this jam were released in Frankenstein form on the 1975 Midnight Lightning LP. Of course Alan Douglas mixed out all of Noel and Mitch's parts replacing them with session musicians and cut the length of the track. He shouldn't of bothered. It's SO much more energetic and rocking with Mitch and Noel's parts restored. Out of all of Jimi's recordings Trash Man may be the most heavy metal. While it's a very heavy, riff laden track it has some really beautiful melodic patterns that are unique to this performance. This is a very tight jam that could of been issued in Jimi's lifetime without anyone blinking an eye.

Drone Blues from Nine to the Universe makes it's CD debut here and it is the unedited take. The recording session for this track is a good one...in short Jimi was at the Scene Club late one night/early one morning in the spring of 1969. A local kid who drummed in a NYC bar band was there and he mustered up the courage to approach Jimi. He tells Jimi he loves his music etc. and that he is a drummer to which Jimi replies "meet me at the Record Plant at 5:30AM" This kid shows up and jams with Jimi and Billy Cox all morning and this is one of the jams they recorded! It's a little rougher than the other tracks on this disc but Jimi plays some devastating hard funk riffs...

The disc closes with some solo Jimi guitar demos done at Olympic including the erstwhile Jimi original Gypsy Blood and 2 solo demos of Valley's of Neptune (one on piano).

PARIS '67/SAN FRANCISCO '68 - Live recordings from the Olympia in Paris in 10/9/67 and Winterland in 2/68. The Paris tape is from an excellent mono radio broadcast (Catfish Blues and Wind Cries Mary on the 4CD box are from this show). Great show from the period when the JHE was fresh and exuberant. Kinda like a less stoned Monterey...The San Francisco tracks are great as well. Mitch Mitchell invites Buddy Miles on stage to take his place for a jam on Dear Mr. Fantasy. Mitch said he wanted to hear what the band sounding like from the audience so he invited Miles to take his place. The jam is very interesting. Jimi somehow manages to make his guitar sound like a bagpipe at times. Highly recommended This tape has an interesting history. When Winterland closed in 1978 Bill Graham gave a soft drink vendor a 30 minute stereo soundboard reel of this performance. He held onto it for 20 years before selling it to Experience Hendrix.

LIVE AT THE OAKLAND COLISEUM 4/27/69 - audience recording. Pretty good as far as 60's aud tapes go but IMO this title is really only for die hards. Sounds like a tape of an AM broadcast. GREAT performance with one of the best Spanish Castle Magic's ever.

LIVE AT CLARK UNIVERSITY 3/15/68 - mono soundbaord with pretty good sonics. Fire from this show is on the 4CD Purple box. The CD only contains part of the concert as the first few songs were not found. Not a great performance. Not bad but just not one of the JHE's better shows. It's kind of flat and uninspired IMO but Fire rocks. Just my .02.

LIVE IN OTTWA - 3/19/68 somewhat over driven soundboard but a very enjoyable recording. Sounds like someone just patched in the board. In any event this show ROCKS. Jimi's tone is really nasty at this show. He was using Sunn amps in early '68 and his tone is a little different. By 3/68 the JHE were really starting to stretch out in concert and and play improvised extended versions of some tracks. Tax Free and Killing Floor are highlights.

BAGGY'S REHEARSALS - rehearsals for the BOG Fillmore concerts. Some very energetic performances but if I want some BOG I reach for the Fillmore recordings or the studio stuff. Hootchie Kootchie Man on Loose Ends is from these tapes.

Talk about fast service. Ordered Wednesday night, arrived in mail box on Friday.

Baggy Rehearsals, Morning Symphony and Hear My Music have killer sound quality.

You talked me into it. I ordered Baggy Rehearsals and Morning Symphony last night.

Yes, you ought to get it.

Also. . . I think the review above from the Steve Audiowartnuts Forum is not as enthusiastic as is appropriate for the Baggy's Rehearsal disc. But maybe that's just me.

No, I definitely agree with you. They sound pretty inspired to me.
