Hardbopjazz
We need an exterminator to get rid of the trolls. Or could they just be Santa's Elfs? I nominate my avatar to get rid of the troll(s). Please no more Kenny G. Edited December 22, 2005 by Hardbopjazz

Guest akanalog
no trolls but i have noticed two things- 1. people are becoming more pretentious around here. insulting people, telling them to read flaubert, answering questions with more obtuse questions, writing as if they are thurston moore talking about a rare frank wright album...style and ego over substance i guess i am saying. i dunno-people like jsngry seem to be full of substance but still exude their original flavor which i think is the pinnacle of this particular online experience. he is a shining example of a good poster. 2. "specialists'-people who don't seem interested in jazz really but instead are interested in one particular artist or subject found on this board and stay within these boundaries which i find weird (be it a particular rock artist or politics) and in some cases act like they are the undisputed expert in this particular subject area. but i mean it is none of my business and i am not sure why it bothers me. i guess if one lives in certain areas of the country or has less than ideal social situations or is just very passionate about something this board is probably a great resource to discuss certain things, jazz or otherwise. Guest akanalog
let me add i guess i just think the staying in certain non-jazz topics seems weird because it is like driving to a party and then sitting in your car parked outside the whole time. listening to tunes or talking to someone in the passenger seat i guess, but still sitting in the car rather than getting out and going into the party and mingling. but again it is none of my business and i guess people who listen to jazz-ish music are open eared and intellingent people and can discuss any number of things all day. so respect. bertrand
Yeah, the 'read Flaubert crap' really pisses me off. I have noticed a rather hostile wave recently, mostly concentrated in the politics forum, fortunately, but spilling into other forums a little bit. It's holiday time, dammit. Bertrand. clifford_thornton
Yeah, maybe I'm overly sensitive to some of the shit, too, but nobody likes it flung at them - so that has to stop. Innocent ribbing is one thing, but the assaults are not cool. Of course, it is worst in the politics forum (naturally), hence I keep mine to myself... but it has been getting a little tense on the board. Now, as for nichifying oneself, well, that seems okay to me, but not at the expense of other people's feelings. I don't know shit about traditional jazz or about rock music, but would not welcome mockery when posting on these subjects. For about a week (OK, a little less) I was debating whether to give the boards a real long breather, but at the end of the day, what can you do but just live your life and keep on posting? Oh wait, I could go outside, watch a movie, listen to music... FWIW, I didn't mind Deep or Aric... they were funny. Sort of.

Alexander
I'm no troll, but I LOVE Flaubert. I remember spending a wonderful Christmas break reading "Madame Bovary" and "L'Education Sentimental" in my fiancee's grandmother's basement (where they made me sleep until we got married)... bertrand
I hated Madame Bovary. Had to study it in high school; what a nightmare. Bertrand.

Part of it, at least in my own case, is that while I LOVE the music, I can't write worth a damn about music. I listen attentively, buy discs, etc, but putting it into a written form eludes me so far. I love being around here(lots of really good folks here), but you find most of my posts in non-music topics. Just my $0.
PHILLYQ
I think Miss Creamcheese likes to kid quite a bit and I find her quite refreshing and even goofy at times(Goofy is pretty cool in my book) with a sharp wit. She might not use smilies, but is it really necessary?

clifford_thornton
I'm not even gonna take Clem's bait beyond the fact that I'm not anti-intellectual or cool, or anything else other than what I am. Just my $0.02 My sentiments exactly. Since I arrived here mostly clueless about jazz (and still not far from clueless compared to some), everyone here and the BNBB has been exceedingly helpful in advising my jazz collecting. The extensive to-buy list I have compiled from reading posts here now makes me feel as if every time I buy a jazz album, it will be a great one. I dig the enthusiasm for this artform we all love, the cool personalities and friendly atmostphere, the sheer depth of jazz knowledge of many of the most prolific posters, the endless political bickering, the sexy album covers thread...I like the whole shebang more than any one poster could distract so much as to ruin my experience. I hope I don't ruin anyone else's. Cheers! Trader Joe's Vienna Style Smooth Amber Lager, not bad.
