AllenLowe Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 I keep trying to look up that dress, but I can't get my monitor to the right angle - Quote
Kalo Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 "Kenny G. Live in Fresno" What kind of headline is that? Very "Dog Bites Man." Now here's a headline for you: "Kenny G. Dead in Fresno." I'd read that article. Quote

Soul Stream Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 I heard some Kenny G in a restaurant, and it was not unlike some of the things Hank Crawford does. Najee, Kenny G....it's a different thing for sure, I don't dig it. But to harp on how bad it is seems like an easy target. Kenny might could actually play some badass shit we'd all be surprised at...just a thought. Quote
marcello Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 I think not but........that's the Christmas Spirit! Quote
Free For All Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 Kenny might could actually play some badass shit we'd all be surprised at Love ya SS, but come on now, that glass is not half full.......... Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 Gerald Albright can PLAY. Hear Birdland West. Najee can PLAY. Hear If only for 1 night with Earland. Why shouldn't Kenny G be able to play? I've never heard him, so I don't know. But if I could make the kind of money he has playing shit, I'd do it. MG Quote
JSngry Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 With Jeff Lorber, Kenny Gorelick showed competency and a glimmer of promise as a funk-jazz light-middleweight. As Kenny G, he's shown....squat. Jack squat, in fact. So fuck him. Let him have his money, and let him just leave me the fuck alone. Quote
BruceW Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 A friend of mine went to see Kenny G last Sunday night at the Saroyan Theater in Fresno. She said that he tore the place up. Apparently he played some shit that would have made Bird cry like a itty bitty baby. Maybe it's not fair to compare bird to kenny G. Bird was a junkie and had to deal with racial discrimination and bla bla bla. Simply put - Kenny kicks ass!!! All the others can do is listen and weep. It's been years since he played Baltimore. Come back Kenny. Kenny come back!!! Yeah, it is always a "she" who adores KG's playing. His playing appeals to women. This is not a knock on women. You don't "compare" Bird to anybody, you compare everyone else to Bird. And if KG is so damn good, then let him put out a straight ahead CD, he certainly has enough money and pull to do that. Why hide those "talents" in a theater in Fresno??? You probably said this shit just to get the bboard riled up! Quote

AllenLowe Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 well, Kenny G DOES also appeal to transgender types - Quote

Why hide those "talents" in a theater in Fresno??? You probably said this shit just to get the bboard riled up! KG's under contract - no one has the pull. Wyclef Jean made the album he wanted to make last year and BMG told him to fuck off with it. Fortunately for him, he owned the master ("if you don't own the master, the Master owns you") so he released it and it sold a little. I doubt if KG owns his own masters and I doubt that he has the strength of conviction that 'Clef has. MG Quote

RDK Posted December 25, 2005 Report Posted December 25, 2005 Surely Kenny G isn't the first jazz artist to make/break a career based on what he chooses to play rather than on what he's able to play... Still, I make my listening decisions on what I hear... Quote

Still, I make my listening decisions on what I hear... I don't know whether Kenny G ever chose to play what he's playing now. I'm damn sure that, now, he couldn't choose to play anything else on record; his record company's making too much money to let him. I've never heard him play, so I don't know what he's like. MG Quote
