leftshu Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 I was listening to The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady and at 5:26 into track 4 it sounds like Mingus says "God dam it". Listen to the track and tell me what you hear. Am I hearing this right ? TIA for your input. Quote

I've only got this on LP; I assume the track you're talking about is the long one that takes up the whole of side 2 and starts with "Mode D - trio and group dancers". I'll have a listen later. couw Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 sure sounds like that although the intonation is a bit funnily stretched instead of spat out with vigour. Quote
couw Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 here's an excerpt of the right channel only with some of the piano filtered out. Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 "Go, Danny!" ? I'm not exactly a Mingus-phile, was DEEP on drums for that session? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 ham sammich? Ed Swinnich? Quote
JSngry Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 I find it hard to believe that Mingus would use such profane language. Quote
brownie Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 "Go, Danny!" ? Not sure what Mingus says but if it's 'Go, Danny!', then it should be 'Go, Dannie! -_- Quote
Peter Johnson Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Yeah, but what do you hear if you play the record backwards? Quote
couw Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 "Tim Mad Dog"? I'd say it sounds more like "Wookie Mad Dog" Quote
7/4 Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 (edited) "Tim Mad Dog"? I'd say it sounds more like "Wookie Mad Dog" More than it sounds like "Go, Dannie!" when it's played forward. Edited December 14, 2005 by 7/4 Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 You can hear it much clearer on LP, with the balance fully right, bass right down, treble full up, than you can on the excerpt posted. Hooray for vinyl! MG Quote
Spontooneous Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 He's saying "Hodaddy." This was Mingus in his surfer phase. Quote
Rosco Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 "Go, Danny!" ? Not sure what Mingus says but if it's 'Go, Danny!', then it should be 'Go, Dannie! -_- Slight difference in pronounciation... Quote
