AllenLowe Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 I may be able to find out - I'm trying to reach her and have a call into her through her agent, because I'm trying to negotiate the rights to some private Joe Albany recordings - will let you know if I find out - Quote

I'm really knocked out by the quality of her writing. Quote
jlhoots Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 My copy finally showed up. Looking forward to reading it soon. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Mine arrived last night too. . . . May be a bit before I get to it, maybe not. . . . Quote
Harold_Z Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Same here. A couple of books moved into the cue ahead of this, but I might squeeze it in after I finish the sleazy crime novel I'm currently reading. Quote
jazzydaddy Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 My copy arrived yesterday...... but my wife beat me to it!!!! Don Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 Mine arrived while we were in CT and was delivered by the mail man today. Good timing, cuz I just finished B.B. King's autobiography (big to that). So I'll be sitting down with this tomorrow. First reaction: nice cover. Quote

Dan Gould Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Allen is right, the quality of her writing is amazing. I'm left wondering what happened from the end of this book til now, where she appears to have a husband and family, and obviously developed a great writing talent. I'd be interested in a second memoir as well as anything else she has written since. I know a lot of people jumped on this one, but if anyone is still hesitating, you need to read this book. Quote
jlhoots Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 And promo. blurbs by Greil Marcus & Francine Prose. Excellent read. Wonder why it didn't get promoted more on release. Probably because of the niche market for the subject material. Quote
ghost of miles Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Dan, I had the same reaction--left wondering what happened to her from 1977 on, hoping that she'll write a second memoir. And yeah, that's a very cool cover; really imparts the feeling of the book. Quote

AllenLowe Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 I'm glad this book is being so well received - I have a call into AJ and will ask her about any sequels. The book is such a dead-on portrait of Joe that,as I mentioned, I had a little trouble reading it. But there's also some quite hilarious macabre stuff - like her reading the dirty book to that guy in the residence hotel - Quote

Peter Johnson Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 I have a copy on order...perhaps someone who has a contact can point her to this thread? It would be interesting to engage in dialogue with her, if she's interested... Quote

Why should I explain the obvious to Danny Boy? Sure, why not continue to be an asshole? You've been one for too many years to count, why change as the calendar turns? Apparently you are STUPID enough to be referring to PETER JOHNSON who wrote that "someone who has a contact ..." I can only assume that you are stupid enough to suggest that I read the "whole thread" when it was PJ who hadn't noticed that Allen has a relationship with the author. Thank you so much for finally inspiring me to use the IGNORE function. And have a wonderful New Year ... Quote
