You've got a lamp post on your front lawn!

:g :g

MG

Yes! I have the only gas-lit lamplight in the neighborhood

(but you'd hardly notice 'cause I have to clean the glass -

after I change the two mantles inside).

I have a sneaking suspicion that your statement has some kind of meaning that I'm missing... :P

No - I was just really surprised. I couldn't tell it was gas-lit. Even more surprised.

Isn't the street lighting very good where you are?

Well, it's more mood lighting :g

Actually, it's a nice arrangement here. Houses on only one side of the street

with a creek on the other side. The street dead-ends at a park

so there's less concern for cars speeding down the street.

the occasional street light can be easily blocked by the large trees

depending on where you're located. A nice arboreal hideaway in the city

that seems to attract the bohemian elements to our area.

A large beautiful lake is nearby too - about a kilometer and a half away.

20K distance to bike around it.

OK, back on topic...A request for Esquivel had me getting out much holiday music,

so I may be digging into that in the next couple of weeks...

Richard Cheese - Silent Nightclub

rc-snc-cover-small.jpg

"America's loudest lounge singer Richard Cheese performs swingin' Vegas versions of rock, rap, and Top40 hits, "swankifying" contemporary songs into traditional pop vocal standards. "Slient Nightclub" features with 14 all-new swingin' holiday hits to make your season tight!"

Mr. Cheese is sort of like "Weird Al" -- but instead of changing the lyrics, he sings in a "lounge" style. Amusing, but the coolest part: his band swings like hell! Lots of fun.

I'm in trouble! I've been looking through my collection for Christmas albums and I can only find 11. I'm sure I have more than this, but I can't remember any more. And some of those I only got by doing word searches through my database (I don't have Christmas records classified separately). I've done word searches for "christmas", "xmas", "noel", "carol", "happy" and have only turned those up.

Any ideas for other word searches I can try?

MG

Well, just in case I can't find any others, I've ordered the Al Grey.

I broke out my Christmas cassettes today.

As many of you will remember, in the 80s and 90s (before stations came up with the all-Christmas format for the month of December) it was common for oldies stations to devote to Christmas music the entire evening of the Sunday before Christmas and all day 6:00 pm Christmas Eve to 6:00 pm Christmas Day. I often made tapes of the shows, and now have 12 cassettes of them!

In regard to pre-recorded tapes, I played today:

Various - Rhythm & Blues Christmas (King)

Perry Como - Sings Merry Christmas Music

Various - Mr. Santa's Boogie (Savoy) (This is a tape I made for the car of an LP I have. Somewhere along the line the LP was separated from all my other Christmas LPs, and now I can't find it! It's packed away somewhere. It includes Bird's recording of White Christmas.)

Various - Merry Christmas Baby (King)

Charles Brown - Sings Christmas Songs (King/Gusto) (Same album, original title as the Brown album mentioned above.)

Stan Kenton - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Capitol) (Same album, different title as the Kenton mentioned above.)

Various - Legends of Christmas Past (EMI)

More cassettes tonight:

The Kingston Trio - We Wish You a Merry Christmas (Same album, different title as the Kingston Trio above)

Trisha Yearwood - Home for the Holidays

Marcus Roberts - Prayer for Peace
