tranemonk Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 okay.. I'm looking over at CDU at upcoming releases... and .. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...289599194&BAB=D Doesn't mention anything about it being the European version.. but it's $30 less the set purchased at Mosaic and comes out about a month later.... What do you think? Any explanations???? Quote
couw Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 amazon.de lists this set for 51.99 Euro Quote
Ron S Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 TM, you should check Caiman at Amazon once this has been out a few weeks. Could be another Farlow in the making (who knew Tal and Buddy were so much alike? ). Quote
RDK Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Geez, I thought the thread title was "A Buddy Rich European Vacation" and started to imagine the possibilities... Quote
Alfred Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 amazon.de lists this set for 51.99 Euro Good spot. Thanks! I pre-ordered it within seconds! Sidewinder, it's your turn!!! Quote
sidewinder Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Thanks Alfred ! I'll hold off for a 'mo but this is another excellent deal. I was expecting to have to wait at least a year before the Amazonian Caiman price kicked in. This rate we'll only have to order from Mosaic HQ for Selects.. Quote
tjobbe Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 (edited) amazon.de lists this set for 51.99 Euro Good spot. Thanks! I pre-ordered it within seconds! Sidewinder, it's your turn!!! they already changed it to a "normal" 95€ ... so the chance is gone Cheers, Tjobbe Edited December 6, 2005 by tjobbe Quote
tjobbe Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 (edited) yes, as www.jpc.de lists them as well for 60€ on pre-order. Cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: just saw they will release it at my birthday...isn't that a sign Edited December 6, 2005 by tjobbe Quote
David Ayers Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I note that amazon.de have also increased prices on the other Mosaic bargains to around the 100 euro mark. Quote
tranemonk Posted December 6, 2005 Author Report Posted December 6, 2005 (edited) What I was trying to say earlier.. was that I don't KNOW if the CDU set is another European version... (aka Farlow....) I'm only guessing that it is... What's odd is why some of their sets end up in the market with European versions at the same time and why some don't... It's not ONLY the Verve titles... (No European Basie or Mulligan....) Edited December 6, 2005 by tranemonk Quote

(No European Basie or Mulligan....) Huh? But I do have Universal (not Yurpean, as far as I know there's no geographic twist to it, it's just Universal's own part of the run) versions of the Basie and the Mulligan... Quote
David Ayers Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 (1) these are the Universal, US made Mosaics (2) so far there have been five: Mulligan, Farlow, Jazztet, Eldridge, Basie Quote
tranemonk Posted December 7, 2005 Author Report Posted December 7, 2005 Really??? How much is the Eldridge going for??? And Hey Ron... S. did you get any of these other than the Farlow as the European version? (1) these are the Universal, US made Mosaics (2) so far there have been five: Mulligan, Farlow, Jazztet, Eldridge, Basie Quote
David Ayers Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 Eldridge went for a little over 50 Euros from amazon.de but has recently reverted to full price. I haven't checked jpc who a few weeks ago had it for under 60 euros. Quote
tjobbe Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 .... I haven't checked jpc who a few weeks ago had it for under 60 euros. yes, www.jpc.de still list those for 60€ , the Basie is at 67€ respectively....(and the Mulligan 4CD set goes away for 50€ ) Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
Ron S Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 And Hey Ron... S. did you get any of these other than the Farlow as the European version? Nope, just the Farlow. Although I've been tempted by the Eldridge (I already have Mulligan, Jazztet, and Basie direct from Mosaic). Interestingly, the Farlow still seems to be the only one of these that is widely distributed in the US at discounted prices (at Amazon--regular and Marketplace, Tower, CD Universe, etc.). Quote
Ed S Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 Just ordered the CD Universe version. Thanks! Quote
Brad Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 I don't know how this could happen or how Mosaic could let it happen. CD Universe has it for $91 and Mosaic's price is $119. Gee, I wonder where people will buy it from? Quote
David Ayers Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 I don't know how this could happen or how Mosaic could let it happen. CD Universe has it for $91 and Mosaic's price is $119. Gee, I wonder where people will buy it from? The Universal Mosaics are real Mosaics in all but serial number. Plainly the deal is to deliver a number of these sets to Verve in lieu of other fees that would otherwise be payable. Mosaic will surely look at the bottom line. Maybe they will sell fewer sets themselves, but they will have lower costs, and if overall sales of the set are greater than might have been expected of a Mosaic-only set then it is all gain. Mosaic can't control the price at which Universal sell, and we should bear in mind that Universal are the copyright holders and that each side in this deal (owners and reissue producers) will be looking at the economics of this arrangement. Quote
tjobbe Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 lets see it this way around: a good way for us Europeans to get some Mosaic's cheaply in exchange for the fact that the rest is expensive because of high shipping from US...all in all its a draw. Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
Ed S Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Well, CD Universe has pushed bck the availabilty date of this set from early January to February 6. The pre-order price is now $130. I ordered several weeks ago at the $91 price which history shows they will honor. Quote
tranemonk Posted December 29, 2005 Author Report Posted December 29, 2005 (edited) Got the following from CDU's website.. "The Mosaic Jazz Box Sets have become one of the collectors 'gems' throughout the world. This set features the legendary Buddy Rich's Argo, Emarcy and Verve small group recordings and is limited to only 150 copies for the UK release. The material featured on this set was originally produced by by Norman Granz, Barney Kessel, Jack Tracy and Creed Taylor. 7 CDs" Interesting... I wonder if that 150 copies is accurate??? Ed S Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Placed my order for the Euopean version of the Rich set with CD Universe on December 7th for $91. Just came in today I was not in any hurry to get it , so I waited through the seemingly endless backorders and changes in release dates. With $2.99 for shipping, the whole thing ran $94.20. The reason I mention it is that I just saw the Oliver Nelson available at CD Universe for around $85. If you're patient, you could get a bargain. Quote
Dave James Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Ed, Nice deal. I got both of these sets from Mosaic for full boat. By the way, I'm really liking the Nelson. He had a nice way with a chart. And, IMO, he's quite underrated as a musician. Up over and out. Quote
