clifford_thornton Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 I think it might have actually had more to do with radio airplay than any demographic marketing - when I was in college radio, we had a number of those A&M LPs in the racks, the Cecil being one of them. Not a bad record, but far from what I would choose as a good representation of his music (especially length-wise). But still, if you're a DJ and you wanted to play some Cecil, that was a good way to 'fit him in' to your set. Needless to say, I had late-evening programming and quickly graduated to 30-minute tracks. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Shit, it's even worse than I remember! Quote
Kalo Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Shit, it's even worse than I remember! You're telling me! I recall that cover scaring me off at the time. Luckily, I found a copy of 3 Phasis around that same time and that's what got me into Cecil. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 I remember liking the playing by Cecil and the rest on this one but not liking that the poetry bits weren't seperate tracks so you could(n't) edit your way around them. Maybe if it had been better poetry... Quote
JSngry Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 The packaging is consistent with the packaging of other A&Ms from the moment (Cherry's "Multikulti" and "Art Deco," Blakey's "One for All," Sun Ra's "Purple Night"). The whole short-lived series had a "look." Wasn't the Dizzy/Max duet concert part of that series too? Quote
rostasi Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 It was nominated for a Grammy that year. I remember an extra long interview on that disc too. Quote
