Tony Pusey
OK heres the deal, wifey has got me into a corner, she loathes Kenton and his bombast, ultimatum: me or Kenton! After some thought and discussion, we reach a compromise, I keep 5 of the Capitol cds, help me, which ones do I keep? Both of the Mosaic boxes are safe, and I have all of the Capitols currently available....
sidewinder
For sure, the 'Innovations Orchestra' doublitime CDs are a keeper.. Maybe you should play the Mrs a bit of 'Kenton/Wagner' at fortissimo.. Edited November 20, 2005 by sidewinder

sidewinder
Yes, I have only heard his version of 'Ride of the Valkyries' once on the car radio but the effect was such that I nearly crashed the car..

JSngry
Ann Landers replies: Definitely keep Innovations, City Of Glass, & Adventures In Jazz along with the Mosaics, maybe the The Romantic Approach/Sophisticated Approach 2-fer (or a similar ballad collection), and then Live At Redlands (a non-Capitol, but as good, if not better, than most of them). Maybe. After you hit the highlights (those first three plus the Mosaics), it's all pretty much different angles of the same shot, if you know what I mean... And then - tell your wife that the next time she tries to tell you what kind of music you can or cannot have in your collection that she can go the way of the rest of your Kenton CDs. I mean, really, I've got shit that I do not play around LTB because I know that she can't handle it. Much of my most beloved post-Ornette music falls into this category, but I just listen to it away from her (in some form or fashion). But that's just respect. She's never issued me an ultimatum to get rid of any music in my collection, and that's respect too! Respect, like love, is a two-way street. Think about it... Tony Pusey
Thanks for the suggestions Ann landers, but dont take my parlour game too seriously! just a conceit on my part, I really am interested in what others find to be the best of a very large oeuvre, The last time wifey really got uppity about my music was when we first met and she found out i like Janis and Big Brother, now that WAS a crisis! And Brownie, with headphones on I can enjoy the silence!
