U.S. board members, what is the most typical price(s) that you see for most reasonably valuable "commodity item" (non-import) used CD's?? (further clarification in first post.)

OK, I'm not talkin' just jazz - but all kinds of music. Fairly mainstream titles, not terribly uncommon labels, or uncommon artists. No imports, nor special "out of print" items that command a premium.

What prices do you most often see being charged in your town (U.S.) - for most reasonably valuable CD's??

No reason, just curious.

$9 here in Kansas City. (I almost voted for $8.50 in the poll, cuz you do see a bunch of discs for $8 too. But really - the most frequent and common price is $9 a pop, probably 2-to-1 over $8).

'Cept there's one chain that's startin' to charge $10 a disc - and that's really startin' to piss me off (Streetside Records). I think $9 is really the max that ought to be charged for used discs (at least around here).

What does the market command in your part of the country??

In Brussels, the biggest second hand shop charges 10-12 Euro for full price CDs (which cost 16-20 Euro new) and 6-8 Euro for midprice CDs (10-12 Euro new).

In Munich, one store I visit regularly (CD Börse in Aventinstrasse) charges 5-10 Euro for CDs, depending mainly on the "market value" (less known artists are less expensive).

I live 10 miles out of Manhattan. Probably the price I see most often is $7.99, which I think is too much. I won't buy it at that price unless there are good reasons to such as rarity, convenience, etc. The store I buy most of my used cds from has a 25% discount on Saturdays, so that brings most $7.99 cds down to $5.99 and they carry a fair amount of decent cds at $6.99 and even some at $5.99, so at 25% off those prices it's a pretty good deal.

The 25% off deal on Saturdays is at a chain in Northern NJ called CD World. I know of locations on Rt 17 So in Paramus, Rt 46 W. in Totowa and Rt 22 W. in Union.

Pretty good when you catch it right.

Just realized that the poll said U.S. board members when I had already voted. Sorry! That's my vote at $11... Guess I was confused by the "U.S. dollar values for poll choices" and promptly calculated what 90 Swedish crowns would be in dollars. Unfortunately there's no way of un-voting I guess. It's like in the presidential election...

I buy most of my used cds at Amoeba (sp?) in Hollywood. I don't think I've ever paid more than $8.99 and have picked up a few things for $4.99. I think they sometimes charge more if they know a cd is out of print. I think their standard price is $7.99.

$7.99 here. Altho at my Coconuts I saw a used TOCJ of Herbie's "Inventions and Dimensions" for $6.99! I have the RVG so I didn't go for it, but I told my friend about it and to go snap it up, as he has a collection growing. I never see Japanese imports of anything round here where I live. Now, if that was JOS "At the Club Baby Grand" vol. 1 or 2, I woulda been all over that :)
