Jim Alfredson Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 AHHHH! It's the attack of the Yahoo search engine bots!!!!! At least, that's what I hope they are. Almost all the guests IP addresses start with 68.142.xxx.xxx which is registered to Yahoo, so I'm assuming it's their search engine. But why they multiplying, I don't know! Quote
Robert J Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 Maybe Google has indexed the Sexiest album covers pages and we're getting referrals from some of those unsavory websites Quote
Brad Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 Isn't the number of guests more or less the same or maybe a little more than as members? 102 or whatever sure seems like a lot. Quote
7/4 Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 AHHHH! It's the attack of the Yahoo search engine bots!!!!! At least, that's what I hope they are. ghost of miles Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 June 19th, now that was a hell of a party... still cleaning up the cigarette butts and beer bottles from that one. Must've been a Juneteenth thang... Quote
7/4 Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 Maybe this explains why I get messages like this: Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information. The error returned was: Sorry, the board administrator has enabled search flood control. Please wait at least 20 seconds before trying again. The site is getting pounded by web bots. Quote
PHILLYQ Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 I visit as a 'guest' when I'm at work. Quote
catesta Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Well, stop it, you're screwing everything up. Quote
ghost of miles Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Just noticed 9-10 guests all registering simultaneously when I looked at the "Last Click" field. Quote

Tom 1960 Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Funny, this crap must happen in waves. Over at The Blindman's we've been inundated with a large number of 'guests' recently. We set a record not long ago for most people online in a 15 minute period. Something approaching 300. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 i bet it's folk like me who need to log in now post board reconfiguration. i know it's me and my browser settings or some such that need attention but if i'm just looking i am merely a guest. Quote

AndrewHill Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 Well I'm speaking now as a former 'guest.' I was a member of the old BNBB before that blew up and then I stumbled onto this site and read it for a couple of years...as a 'guest.' But I decided that the water's fine, I don't mind the hazing rituals and I am wearing britches. So there you are Quote

I think that's correct. I never needed to log in before. Now I have to sometimes (and sometimes not - dunno why that is) but never realise it until I want to post something, unless I'm looking at the sexiest album sleeves thread If this is happening to everyone, then I guess that might account for it. MG The only time that I've had to re-log in is when the board went down[because I never log out]. Btw, if you leave this site without logging out, do others see you as an active/present member at the bottom of the Forum Home page? [inquiring minds need to know.] Quote
