i am not trying to pimp for embryo but someone introduced me to this service a few days ago. so i emailed to see what was up and actually got a response from christian burchard! pretty cool. but i guess he is selling a lot of live embryo material. i might try to pick up a few discs though i find this list confusing. i guess i will email him to ask what he recommends. but if anyone is interested here is the list mr. burchard sent me...

and for those that don't know, embryo was a krautrock jazz fusion group which at one time had mal waldron as a member and charles mariano and trilok gurtu at other times. the mal waldron stuff is cool with mal waldron on e-piano and this guy jimmy jackson on organ. like on the japo album (or is it ECM?) "the call" which is about my favorite album ever.

Well, that seemingly endless list of recordings ....

Embryo was a cult band here in Germany, and one of the first to try independent marketing. And one of the first to cross the border to jazz, with Mal Waldron, Jimmy Jackson, even Trilok Gurtu and Charlie mariano played with them - they had plenty of gigs. I once saw them on campus with an amazing Indian folk drummer.

Embryo were awesome! Fans of Embryo should also check out the Italian fusion band Area. Steve Lacy played with them on at least one album (that I can remember) in the mid-'70s.

i respect area but they are less my thing because there more lyrically and vocally oriented (that stratos guy has sick pipes). more music with a message though definitely excellent musicians crossing into jazz fusion land.
