John B Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 I just noticed that no one has mentioned Boston yet. I would suggest starting with the Middle East, in Cambridge. They book primarily rock, but I have seen jazz there before. 1). Send your demos to:</ Upstairs Booking The Middle East Club 472 Massachusetts Avenue Cambridge, MA 02139 We accept demo tapes, CDs and promotional materials by mail. We do not accept electronically transmitted MP3s or links to web pages. 2). Allow 6 to 8 weeks for us to receive and listen to it. 3). Jim Alfredson Posted July 21, 2003 Author Report Posted July 21, 2003 Thank you John! Those are very helpful! Quote
Big Wheel Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 (edited) If you go to Boston, you may even be able to swing a weekday gig at Regattabar or Scullers (the two big clubs), though it might be a long shot. I have contacts at both locations so if you're interested, email me. I would be happy to put together an on-air interview too. John: Do you know if the Green Street Grill still does music? I'm pretty sure that Ken Clark's organ trio used to gig there. Edited July 21, 2003 by Big Wheel Quote
John B Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 John: Do you know if the Green Street Grill still does music? I'm pretty sure that Ken Clark's organ trio used to gig there. Yes, they do. That would be another great place to contact. Quote
Big Wheel Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Maybe even the Lizard Lounge would be a good fit, too. Organissimo meets The Fringe--that could be interesting! Quote
Jim Dye Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 I spoke with a guy today who has put on some local shows. One venue, called the Slow Bar, will be closed by October but he mentioned another place. I'll lay the press kit you sent me on him in a couple days. I'll get back to you shortly with more info... GPfr Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Two other places in Portland, OR. to check out. Never been to this one, but organ groups play here: Goodfoot Lounge 2845 SE Stark St. Portland, OR. (I don't know the ZIP code) 503-239-9292 This next place, I've played. They're closing for re-modeling in mid-August and reopening.....well, nobody knows. Might not even do music anymore, but just in case: Jazz de Opus 33 NW 2nd Ave Portland, OR. (I dont know the ZIP code) 503-222-6077 www.jazzdeopus.com/indexb.asp Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 You might even want to check out the House Of Blues in Cambridge. A weeknight thing might go over very well at Harvard. Don't know how much of the Cleveland scene these days but that's a good pit stop on the way home. The "Flats" have since been re-constructed. The East Side haunts were Lovano would have played are slipping my mind since it's been a long time!! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 great to see that the board is hooking up with the band! sounds wonderful, i'd LOVE to see ya'll, but we'll have to get you down to Texas first!  plus, everybody needs some tex-mex, pecan pie, bbq SOMETIME! You can hold out in Michigan much longer without it.  I hope it happens. The Texans on the board are some badass mammy-jammys! And you know, Kansas City is right on the way down to Texas, so just say the word - and I'll hook you up with some venues, jazz or otherwise, and some great BBQ!!! I've got connections with a couple good rooms, and my connection with the booking guy at The Blue Room (best jazz bar in town) is pretty good, or at least decent. I may have a friend of a friend with good connections in Columbia, MO too - only two hours east of here. And we've got some extra space at our house too, if you need a free place to stay here in Kansas City. My wife wouldn't jump up and down with excitement over it, but it wouldn't be the first time that wayward jazz musicians from out of town had crashed in our extra bedroom, on couches, in sleepingbags on the floor, etc... There was this 6-piece group from Minneapolis once ("The Motion Poets", formerly "The 'Little' Big Band" - lead by an alto player named Doug Little, get the pun??) that used to stay at our place all the time, a few years back. Jim Dye Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 sent y'all an email at info@organissimo.org Quote
skeith Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 You should check out "Nightown" or the "Bop Stop" in Cleveland Ohio. Quote
Theo Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Ok: this from B3er's dad: it's 9:30 pm eastern time and I just talked to Jim in Florida: they loved 'em at the jazz festival, and treated our boys like kings. The front row was full of media, and we are hoping for a great review: There was a lot of positive response and they sold a bunch of CDs. Hang in there, friends of Organissimo: these guys are going to be big time and we can all say 'we knew them when'. This from a proud parent. Theo Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Great news, Theo. The guys deserve some recognition, and it's only a matter of time. Quote
brownie Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 There is this Hammond Jazz Festival scheduled in May 2004 near Port Leucate. That is in southern France, along the Mediterranean, near Perpignan. Their website (there is an english translation) is here They have groups already booked (including Eddy Louiss, Rhoda Scott, Philip Catherine). Organissimo would be a natural there. Not sure they have money enough to fly a group from the States but might be worth a try. Let me know if I could help. Good luck! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted October 31, 2003 Author Report Posted October 31, 2003 I've been in contact with them, actually. I do not recall if I sent a package or not. I'll have to find the email and re-read it. I seem to remember them saying something about not having the funds to fly anyone over from the states as of yet. Quote
brownie Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Would be nice to hear the group live on this side of the water Quote
neveronfriday Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 (edited) If you ever do come to Europe, definetely add Germany to your list. Lots of jazz fans here and lots of good clubs all over the country, often run by very dedicated people. I live near a city called "Karlsruhe" which has several excellent clubs with both internationally renowned acts and up-and-coming bands. I know of several other clubs west and north of here which would be equally suitable. If you ever do plan to come to Europe, make sure to contact any European members of this board way in advance. The clubs I know here in Germany (I also know quite a bit in Scandinavia where I lived for some years) book way early (6 months and more prior to the show). Cheers! Just thought of this: Whenever I'm in Copenhagen, I check out this guy: Kjeld Lauritsen (Oops. Stupid frameset link doesn't work. Select Denmark on the left and you're almost there). He's just damn good, often teams up with Bob Rockwell (sax) and just does a cool live show. Last time I saw him he still had a band called "The Organizers" which frequently plays the circuit (f.ex. the LaFontaine jazz club and different venues at the annual Copenhagen Jazz Festival).
