ispace Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 (edited) So is this worth the extra $$ or should I look at the local US one instead? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...g=UTF8&v=glance Edited October 25, 2005 by ispace Quote
ispace Posted October 25, 2005 Author Report Posted October 25, 2005 No-one? I have read that it is 20-bit remastered, which brings it up to at least 1995 technology. I understand the original US box set came out around 1985. Quote
Evonce Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 I would go for it if I had unlimited funds. I already traded in my domestic version a while back and upgraded to the K2 remasters, which in every instance have been better than the old US box. Guess I'll wait for the rest of them to trickle out. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 If I had unlimited funds, I'd do the same as Evonce says he would. Undoubtedly it is going to sound better than the domestic box. I've had the domestic box for a long time. . . . Have some of the sessions in upgrades. . . . Couldn't justify getting the box set but if I had big dollars to spend and didn't have these sessions, this would be the way to go. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 I would be careful ordering from these Amazon sellers. They are not always careful in their choices at listing product. There have been too many instances of people ordering a specialized item (like a gold CD) and getting the standard issue. Kevin Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 True. To play it safe, I'd order it from Amazon Japan (VICJ-61291) for $156. When you factor in the shipping, you (ispace) will still save close to $90. In my case, since I rarely mess around with these large boxes, and don't have any recent upgrades, I'll probably ditch the older box and try to pick up a good chunk of the material as 24-bit reissues due out in Dec. Good point, definitely something to think about......although, FWIW, the SACDs seem to run $19-25 and the new Evans K2's will run $21 before shipping. Probably works out about the same. BTW, there's another Evans title ('Montreux') due out in Japan in December that's packaged in a 12x12 replica LP cover? I don't think I've ever seen a cd packaged that way....have you? Seems a bit awkward. Not sure I want to start filing away cds on the shelf with my lps. Quote
Bluerein Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 I have some pop cd's issued in that format and they look great. Not the most space saving method but nice. Not so cheap though. Quote

ispace Posted October 29, 2005 Author Report Posted October 29, 2005 Hi all, thanks for your replies. I like the idea of box sets simply because it is simpler than having to find all of the individual releases. I also would like to check that there are no box-only bonus tracks unavailable on the individual albums? Thanks, Brett. Quote
