Recommended Posts

At least I haven't seen it before....I think most here would catch this, but still thought I would mention it...Doesn't look like it below, but it looks just like an typical question from ebay member email....with respond icon and all...

Question from eBay Member

Question from jvsfl

Hello,

This is John with the camera. I noticed that you picked up the money, it has been 4 days and I haven't received the package, what's next? Are you scamming me ? Please respond ASAP!

I've been averaging two e-mails a week telling me that my ebay account has been suspended until I confirm my personal information.  Yeah, right.... <_<

I've been getting the similar one for PayPal at about the same rate. The links provided in the e-mail begin with https:/

Like, the internet protocol went out and got all plural on me when I wasn't looking.

SSL - (pronounced as separate letters) Short for Secure Sockets Layer, a protocol developed by Netscape for transmitting private documents via the Internet. SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data − a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message. Both Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer support SSL, and many Web sites use the protocol to obtain confidential user information, such as credit card numbers.By convention, URLs that require an SSL connection start with https: instead of http:

Any Ebay email can be spoofed, but it's hard to understand what the purpose of this one is.

I got snookered by this trick a couple of months back. Received a message about something I had supposedly sold, went to respond to tell the sender that he was barking up the wrong tree, and was asked for my username and password. I gave them and immediately realized I'd been scammed, and changed my password right away. I've learned to ignore the old "your account will be suspended" scams that I get regularly from "Ebay" and "Paypal" , but this was a new wrinkle. I guess these scams must work enough of the time that the crooks keep doing them. I've heard that when they get a real username and password, they list "Buy It Now" merchandise under the username they stole, take the money, and the real seller takes the blame.

D'oh! I'll be durned. I haven't been paying attention (surprise surprise.) Well I tells ya, beware of those emails that are supposedly from PayPal anyway.

Is that the true Ebay name in your message? A user with that name existed, but is unregistered now.

Any Ebay email can be spoofed, but it's hard to understand what the purpose of this one is.

I forgot to mention, the respond now button had the link to the fake site....

And folks, don't just delete those spoofs, send them to ebay and paypal, they seem powerless to do much against these crooks, but at least they can try to shut them down. I hate to think of people new to ebay really enjoying bidding on junk, only to get screwed by the swine who do this shit.

So, what did you do with John's money?  Is it gone? Will you ever satisfy his desires?

We used John's camera to film a very pregnant Britney and Kevin Federline during a most intimate moment. I told him I could put the film up on the web, but I needed some money first to get the right marketers and lawyers to help us pull it off(So to speak) He left the money taped under a mailbox in downtown Bogalusa.

Sadly, instead of putting the money to good use, instead I used the moola to buy every mosaic set for sale on ebay...so in other words, no, I don't think I will ever be able to satisfy his desires.
