Christiern
Here's what it looks like-- Here's the new iMac G5 with built-in EyeSight camera, a mighty mouse, and a remote control that allows you to show movies, slide shows, etc., or simply play (and choose) your music from across the room. It's also slimmer than its predecessor, but not pricier. Edited October 12, 2005 by Christiern
kh1958
That's really disappointing. What I need is a more than 60 GB ipod, not an ipod that shows video.

Most Americans could care less about putting 1000+ CDs on their ipod, and I think the main reason is that most Americans have fewer than 100 CDs, to say nothing of 1000. bertrand
It might work if you've had your iPod less than a year. You might sweeten the deal by leaving some choice 'rarities' in the model you're turning in Bertrand.
Christiern
The new 60G is said to hold 15,000 tunes--is that not enough for anyone? BTW, I just downloaded and tried out the new iTunes (6) and see that they have added music videos, TV series, and audio books. As I poked around and searched on my name (thinking it might bring up my interviews with Lester Young and/or Ruby Smith) I amazed to find that I am available for about $2.99, being interviewed by Francis Davis's wife on "Fresh Air." Where are my royalties?

I'm down to 14G available and am about only half the way through the BN catalog.
kh1958
Actually, I think that's 15,000 three minute songs, so that unless one only listens to pre-LP era performances, your jazz ipod will hold less songs. I take great pleasure in going through my CDs and selecting the songs I like best for my itunes library/ipod. Since I only have 5 gbs left, I'm not going to be able to do this much longer, unless they put out a bigger ipod or I start removing songs. From my point of view, when I'm traveling or driving, the more music I have on the ipod makes for a better experience. I have huge selections of Ellington, Mingus, and Charlie Parker, among others. Do I want to stop adding Ellington for example? I think not. Plus, for variety, I have alot of blues, music from Latin countries, Africa, a little rock. The more music the better. Many if not most people rip their CDs at a higher bitrate (I rip mine at 192 Kbps) for better sound quality.
Stefan Wood
I can see it now -- laws created so that no one can play offensive or adult material on the ipods in public.... I'm sure 80 GB drives will be available eventually -- but c'mon, you really have the need to put the Blue Note library on one ipod?

I won't be sated until they come out with a 1TB model. In fact, ideal would be a little 1-exabyte microchip implanted into my fingertip. I'd just have to be real careful when cutting onions and stuff. Edited October 13, 2005 by Big Wheel

I think what I need a shelves which I can pull out cds full of music to play with art cover......no ..wait I have that already Now then boffins.....think if you could make an ipod thingy whatsit that was 12 inches and showed the record cover front and back of what you were listening to so your could admire the art work ...read the liner notes .....and listen in crystal clear sound.....these techie people need to think of us stamp collectors and not the smaller people with 12 cd collections -_- heavens! Now I would have to have one of them
Jim Alfredson
People, the solution is simple... just buy multiple iPods. One for your BN's, one for your Prestige/Milestones/Riversides, one for your Verve's, and one for me.

It is hard and then there are the Savoys, Bethlehems, Time.......the Transition lps...really speaking they should be treated specially Even with a BlueNotePod....do I seperate out the 1500 series...what about the Liberty era... I am seriously having a bad day now

Most Americans could care less about putting 1000+ CDs on their ipod, and I think the main reason is that most Americans have fewer than 100 CDs, to say nothing of 1000. ← But you'd be surprised at how many iPod users have thousands (even tens of thousands) of hours worth of dowloaded MP3's - a lot of people out there could easily fill a 100GB (or larger) iPod. I was really surprised that they didn't do an 80GB model this time around, especially since this thing does video. The only reason I was excited about a video iPod in the first place was that the concept seemed to imply a larger drive. Toshiba has had 80GB microdrives for over a year now - they will make their way into iPods eventually.
md655321
Another interesting with the new ipods is that they can now store lyrics (or basically a large amount of text.) What this means for jazz is we can now get a time where session info for each track can be viewed on the ipod. Eventually, hard copy cd's will be gone, and this new little trick will be great. Now I can load a Mosaic on there and still have personnel and recording info with me wherever I go. Unfortunately, I dont have a new ipod yet. And the manufactures dont load that info into the songs downloaded from itunes, but i figure its only a matter of time.
