vanbeat Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 I've got the Emarcy set and a few others - Rare Recordings, Brownie Lives, Beginning and End, In Concert (thanks Lon), Blue Note stuff - and was wondering how essential the Proper set is. It's about $25, so the cost isn't an issue. I just prefer not to double up too much. Thanks for the info, van ps: I tried the search, but it's not working. Quote
king ubu Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 My guess is you won't need it, but I don't know. You can compare yourself, here's the discography of the Proper set: http://www.propermusic.com/popups/PROPERBO...discography.htm Quote
Claude Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 (edited) The Proper set contains the Gigi Gryce Paris sessions from 1953 (only master takes), which are some of the best Brownie recordings in my view. The were released before as 3 individual CDs (many alternate takes) by Vogue and in the US by Fantasy. These CDs would be first choice if you are a collector. I think they are OOP now. Claude Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 (edited) The Paris sessions master takes were also released on a 2CD set by the other rip-off label: http://www.disconforme.ad/pages2/definitiv...p?ref=DRCD11246 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6049884 Edited October 12, 2005 by Claude Quote
