I've heard some of the stuff from the Mozambique. It's killer. Wish it'd come out.

Oddly, if you look at GG's discography at All Music, it shows this as a 2006 release - even has a catalog number.

Bingo!

http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...D=5092246&BAB=L

I put my order in to CD Universe using the link in Eric's post. Can Jim confirm that Organissimo will be paid or shall I cancel the order and do it again?

MG

You need to cancel and either wait for Jim to post a link, or else use the search box at the top of the page to find and order it. Looking at the link and comparing it to a link Jim posted for another album, its clear that Jim's posting contains code for Organissimo to get credit.

Thank you, Dan. Will do.

This GG live stuff is coming out due to Bob Belden's insistence that it be heard. There are no original tapes to be found so this CD will be made using the mono mixed tapes with Malcolm Addey and Belden doing their magic on them. No idea about the music or the tunes.

There are a couple of other CDs coming out on the July 18th date, but they're mostly Capitol dates... I think he said there were a couple of Nancy Wilson CDs in there.

Thank You Bob Belden!!!!!!!! I am sure it will sound great...I would listen to this session under water if I had to.

God bless Bob Belden! :P

Hopefully they are packing the disc with as much music as possible.

According to my online source it's 1/06-07/71 with Houston Person and Clarence Thomas (didn't know he was so talented!) on saxes, Ronnie Foster on organ and Egregious Muhammad on drums. A mix of familiar and new tunes, more than enough listed as unissued rather than rejected for > 1CD. Includes some Burt B. tunes GG didn't do elsewhere, I think... There's still a whole '70 studio session and leftovers from Carryin' On, but eventually we'll get it all and have to find something new to complain about...

Egregious Muhammad? That's an egregious comment, if intended.

The Caravan of Dreams used to have a semi-regular rhythm section who would back up star guest artists like Freddie Hubbard, David Newman or Frank Morgan, etc. It was Larry Willis, Walter Booker and Idris Muhammed--I saw them quite a few times and Idris Muhammad is one fine drummer.

I just meant to say that he's one 'bad' (in a good way) drummer! I just have a weakness for bad puns and, yes, i guess i do have a thing 'bout peoples that change their names...

Very good, my apologies for my literal-minded mistake.

Given that Universal Japan just reissued Patton's "Blue John" on CD with five previously unissued songs with Green as a sideman, is there a chance that Blue Note and Verve may publish some of this unissued Green stuff?

Cuscuna provides a new liner note intro to the new Blue John HMCD Japan reissue -- so he is certainly aware of the five bonus tracks, although I don't know if he authorized them or what his overall role was in the reissue.

Do these new reissues contain new US remasterings of the back catalog? Or are they remasterings by Japanese engineers? I picked up the new Japanese Matador CD reissue and it is much better than the old 1990 cd, clearly a different, new mastering.

I'm not familiar with the 1969 Paris Grant Green recordings. Do you have more info? Is that a French studio date or a live recording? If a live recording, was it a professional recording for French radio - or amateur recording?

Well this is great and unexpected news. I've always wanted to hear the organ version of Jean De Fleur. One of my favourite tunes. Someone must have done some lobbying to release these rejected tunes from the vault. Well done and thank you whoever you are.

I believe it is a part of this performance seen here, the tunes are apparently from the Grant Green trio portion of this concert with double bass and drums.

Would love to know who owns the copyright to this and why it hasn't been released before. Seems like a landmark piece of film in Jazz guitar history.

New transfers by Bernie Grundman, probable Japanese mastering or tweaking.

Thanks for posting that video. Where did you find the tracklisting ? Any chance Cuscuna can help get this released on a future Jazz Icons DVD or Blu Ray?

Looks like a 2" quad videotape source taped in a TV soundstage, most likely a mono soundtrack. The duration is listed as 68 minutes and 71 minutes. From the content listing below, it looks like the three guitarists may have jammed together, and then each guitarist led a bass, drum trio by themself for ~25 minutes each. Amazing this hasn't surfaced before. I wonder if the quad source tape is private hands. The description of the video could also be read to say that the jam session itself (with all three guitarists) was 71 minutes. 2 DVDs?

I recall reading somewhere that around 1969 Green was getting himself back together (apparently after kicking H) and that Burrell was helping Green out and took him on this Paris tour. It would great to hear and see Green's full Parisian TV performance.

Could this have been taped in colour perhaps? The well known Uk clip from this tour is in colour? Can't believe this is languishing 'hidden' in the hand of 'collectors'.
