monkboughtlunch Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Are there any more 1960s dates with Green as a leader or sideman for the Verve and Blue Note labels that have yet to be issued on compact disc? Quote
Jim R Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 (edited) I've forgotten if "Wings and Things" (Verve) ever got released on CD outside the U.S....? "Joe's Blues"? (Johnny Hodges/Wild Bill Davis; Verve) Then there's the unissued ("rejected") quartet session (BN) from Nov. 26, 1960 with Wynton Kelly, PC, and PJJ. Edited October 9, 2005 by Jim R Quote
monkboughtlunch Posted May 7, 2006 Author Report Posted May 7, 2006 The BN date you mentioned was released as "First Session" back in 2001. I don't think the Johnny Hodges verve dates have been issued on CD. Quote
ep1str0phy Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 There's a run-through for Solid sitting somewhere in the vaults (I think it has John Gilmore). Do a search--it came up on a thread a couple of months ago. Quote

monkboughtlunch Posted May 7, 2006 Author Report Posted May 7, 2006 I think there are more Blue Note sessions that were rejected or unissued. Wasn't there a date with Freddie Roach that was shelved? And wasn't there a date with Gene Harris on organ that was shelved? Quote
Swinging Swede Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 There are also two unissued Verve sessions from 1965. It has been discussed before, I think. Quote
Sundog Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 I seem to remember discussion of a live date recorded at Club Mozambique? Quote

MG I would have to assume these don't exist anymore, since there have been active Vee Jay reissue programs that coincided with Grant's sudden take-off in popularity. Surely this would have been reissued if they had it. Quote
bertrand Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I'm pretty sure a friend of mine has a copy of this, so I think it still exists. It probably was not reissued because there's nowhere really to fit in these few tracks. Bertrand. Quote

monkboughtlunch Posted May 17, 2006 Author Report Posted May 17, 2006 When was Ruppli's discography published? How did he glean information? From sessions logs? Did he have access to the tape library and boxes? Did he hear any of the unreleased sessions? Quote

Yeah imagine if they could squeeze em all into one of the mosaic select thingies like they did with Andrew Hill recently. Wow Cannot see that happening though ( mind you I never could with the Hill material and that was superb!) I am sure a small amount of pressure could be brought to bear by a few more board members here Quote
robertoart Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 When was Ruppli's discography published? 1986 Hi I am new to the board, just wanting to see if someone might be able to provide some info...In the liner notes to Live at the Lighthouse, Bob Belden mentions a session with Houston Person that does not appear in any Grant discographies...if this session is all that BB says it is then it must be a very special and important recording.. especially in light of when it was made...does anyone have any knowledge of this By the way thanks for all the wonderful things I've been able to read here on Grant, John Patton and George Braith etc al...
