I've forgotten if "Wings and Things" (Verve) ever got released on CD outside the U.S....?

"Joe's Blues"? (Johnny Hodges/Wild Bill Davis; Verve)

Then there's the unissued ("rejected") quartet session (BN) from Nov. 26, 1960 with Wynton Kelly, PC, and PJJ.

There's one more; his first recording.

Tommy Dean

Tommy Dean (org); Fred Lee (ts); Grant Green (eg); Hattuch Alexander (b);

Milton Wilson (d, bgo); Joe Buckner (voc).

Universal Recording, Chicago, October 23, 1956

56-562 Boogie Googie (part 1) Vee-Jay unissued

56-563 Boogie Googie (part 2)

56-564 Ain't No Justice

56-565 She Left Me Alone

56-566 Come On

That would be REALLY interesting to hear. I have a couple of 78s by Dean and his band swung like crazy!

I would have to assume these don't exist anymore, since there have been active Vee Jay reissue programs that coincided with Grant's sudden take-off in popularity. Surely this would have been reissued if they had it.

I'm pretty sure a friend of mine has a copy of this, so I think it still exists.

It probably was not reissued because there's nowhere really to fit in these few tracks.

I wonder if Larry Young was on these two unissued Verve sessions - he was on the one that was released, and they were recorded not long after.

Personnel aren't known in Ruppli's Verve discography. Here are the entries.

GRANT GREEN (G) + ?

NYC, 5 AUG 65

IRON CITY MARCH

ANGL

FAT JUDY

SAMBA DE ORFEU

CHIM CHIM CHEREE

GRANT GREEN (G) WITH ?

1 SEP 65

THINGS AIN’T WHAT THEY USED TO BE

MOON OVER ALL

I CAN’T STOP LOVING YOU

HIGH HEEL SNEAKERS

BLUES TRAN

SUNDAY, MONDAY OR ALWAYS

FEVER

DREAM

UPTOWN

Possibly Larry Young is on the 5 August job. Wouldn't like to guess who's on the other.

whould blue note ever consider releasing all those unissued grant sessions as a box set?? sounds like they have enough material and it would certainly be one of the more intersting boxed sets to come out....

Yeah imagine if they could squeeze em all into one of the mosaic select thingies like they did with Andrew Hill recently. Wow

Cannot see that happening though ( mind you I never could with the Hill material and that was superb!)

I am sure a small amount of pressure could be brought to bear by a few more board members here :)

When was Ruppli's discography published?

1986

Hi I am new to the board, just wanting to see if someone might be able to provide some info...In the liner notes to Live at the Lighthouse, Bob Belden mentions a session with Houston Person that does not appear in any Grant discographies...if this session is all that BB says it is then it must be a very special and important recording.. especially in light of when it was made...does anyone have any knowledge of this

By the way thanks for all the wonderful things I've been able to read here on Grant, John Patton and George Braith etc al...
