Sure, happens all the time with snakes and other exotic 'pets.' Matter of fact, I think someone recently released a small croc or two in -- or around -- Lake Folsom in Northern CA. At least that's what the relatives tell me. :w

Someone released a caiman (essentially a small crocodile) into the Harlem meer a few years back. And then there was the guy with the tiger in his apartment uptown last year. Actually, I know a guy who had a "pet" cheetah on the upper west side - not by choice, but as the result of an army prank. I met him after the cheetah had passed on, but evidently it was a great pet (not that I advocate keeping wild animals).
