bertrand Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 (edited) I'm probably going to order the Andrew Hill and John Patton selects next week. I'll get the Stanley Turrentine around Christmas, and the Carmell Jones early next year. Are any of these in danger? Should I change the order of my purchases? I also plan to get the Tolliver and Jazztet, but those are recent releases. Thanks, Bertrand. Edited October 5, 2005 by bertrand Quote
John Tapscott Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I would think the Mobley has to go soon. Just finished listening again to all 6 discs. This is BEYOND DOUBT one of the very best Mosaic sets. I suspect that once it hits the running low category it will go real fast. So if you don't have it , grab it NOW. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Bertrand, I don't think any of those will be "endangered" within your proposed time frame. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 :o Yikes!! When I first saw "Mosaic boxes in danger" I thought it was something like Mosaic giving up selling the big boxes or something. I was quite relieved to see the subtitle of this thread! Another big for the Mobley set, it gets better and better with repeated listenings. I'm also glad I got the J. J. set before it goes away. Is the Parlan set in danger yet? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it might be next. Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 :o Yikes!! When I first saw "Mosaic boxes in danger" I thought it was something like Mosaic giving up selling the big boxes or something. ← Yeah, me too! Quote

Don't think any of those are going out for awhile. Wonder what will be the first Select to do so. Quote
bertrand Posted October 5, 2005 Author Report Posted October 5, 2005 I'll try to change the header! Bertrand. Quote
bertrand Posted October 5, 2005 Author Report Posted October 5, 2005 Done. Thanks for the replies. I'll get Hill and Patton next week, and wait until I digested (and iPoded!) those before moving on to Mr. T. Fortunately, thanks to this board, if ever Stan the Man makes the endangered list earlier than Christmas, I will know here right away. Bertrand. Quote
Ron S Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Parlan and Turrentine are both on my "Running Low" watch list. Quote

David Ayers Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Bertrand I don't know whether you have the JJ Johnson set but that is most definitely in danger, and if you don't have it you could certainly consider it. It's a fine one. Quote
montg Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 I imagine the Mobley is a steady seller and it may approach its complete run (7500 I think). Perhpas the lease from Blue Note is pretty flexible and allows Mosaic to keep renewing it. The sets leased from Verve seem to be a little less flexible, those sets don't normally hang around for a long time (like the Mobley and the Capitol sets, for instance). So, I'm guessing the Roach and Hodges may be among the next to go. I have the Hodges, I still haven't made up my mind about Roach. Quote
John Tapscott Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 I I have the Hodges, I still haven't made up my mind about Roach. ← If you go for the Roach, I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed. An excellent set. Quote
take5 Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 I got the Mobley, Elvin Jones, and Max Roach sets just to make sure I won't have to worry about being able to afford them if they run low soon. I will use this thread a resource for future purchases- thank you all. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 I purchased and received the following Sets within the last couple of weeks and these are their numbers for what it's worth. Patton Select: 4546 of 5000 Chambers Select: 4512 of 5000 Mobley Mosaic: 4754 of 7500 Farmer/Golson Mosaic: 1635/10,000 Quote
