bertrand
Reminder for anyone in or near DC tomorrow, October 1st. The Duke Ellington Jazz Festival will take place at the Sylvan Amphitheatre on the National Mall, at the foot of the Washington Monument. I checked out the site Wednesday - gorgeous location, and the weather should be nice. Highlights (for me) are The Fort Apache Band at 12:00, Wallace Roney Sextet at 1:45 and WAYNE SHORTER at 4:00. Vocalist Sunny Sumter appears at 3:00, and has an excellent band: Janelle Gill on piano and James King on bass. If you want to hook up there, send me a PM and I'll send you my cell phone number. Bertrand. Disclaimer: I got the times from several sources, including people affiliated with the Festival and this website: http://www.rightonrhythm.com/ror/sites/sch...e.php3?club=689 (at the top, it says it starts at 1:00, and at the bottom 12:30). All of the sources are consistent, but the official site dejazzfest.org does not show times. So, I can't promise the times won't change, as these things do happen with these outdoor free things. Don't hold me to them. I will be there before 12:00 to be safe. Edited September 30, 2005 by bertrand

Free For All
Actually Wayne Wallace is a very fine trombonist from San Francisco.
bertrand
RDK, Elsewhere you asked about gigs in DC. I suggested a possible gig on 10/6. Let me know if you're interested. Bertrand.
Stefan Wood
The quartet was fantastic! Perfect weather -- a little sound problem in the beginning, but overall, they had the audience in their hands and they played great! It is interesting to hear the evolution of the band, from Perez's confidence in his playing, to some of the best playing I have ever heard from Pattitucci -- outrageous funky beats. Wayne is still in fine form; having a lot of fun on stage.
bertrand
I agree with everything Stefan said. I'll just add an (approximate) set list: 1. Unknown title (perhaps Zero Gravity) 2. Go 3. As Far As The Eye Can See 4. She Moved Through The Fair 5. Smilin' Through 6. Joy Ryder I am going to see him in Philly next Saturday - just can't enough of this stuff. Bertrand.
