mrjazzman Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Are there any differences between "The Complete Blue Note Recordings"(which I own) and "Genius Of Modern Music, Vol.'s 1&2. The titles seem to be identical. Is there a difference in sound quality? Quote
Claude Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 The individual CDs have been remastered by Rudy Van Gelder and sound much clearer. Generally, the RVGs of pre-1955 Blue Note material (Monk, Miles, Bud, Brownie) show the biggest improvement in the reissue series. Quote

Rosco Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 I don't own the box but IIRC the live Five Spot recordings with Trane (issued as Discovery ) have been pitch corrected. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 That's right. The Jackson material is available on RVG'd cds and sounds spectacular there. The only specific difference besides sonics you would get giving up the box set is the pitch-corrected Half Note tracks. . . . Quote
