bump...

I just picked up two (!) new Mehldau releases yesterday. One is "House on Hill", which is a Trio recording with Larry Grenadier & Jorge Rossy. Apparently it is comprised of recordings that were made during the same sessions as "Anything Goes". However, that one was comprised of cover material, while House on Hill is all originals. This new one also brings a return of the humongous, self-penned liner notes.

The other is a duet with vocalist Renee Fleming, "Love Sublime".

I haven't spun either yet, but am looking forward to them. Just wanted to give a heads up for anyone else interested.

Listening to the latest for the first time today, and "Knives Out" is a strong start so far. He's doing more with it... sometimes in the past he's covered pop tunes and hasn't gone very far from statements of the melody.

Day is Done, is my only Mehldau album. From what I heard, it's pretty good. The version of She's Leaving Home is beautiful. I also like 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. He's definately got talent. I like him.

Heads up for another Mehldau release coming up at the end of August: Pat Metheny & Brad Mehldau!

METHENY + MEHLDAU CD COMING SOON

This past December Pat and pianist Brad Mehldau teamed up for a long discussed and highly anticipated joint project together. Meeting in a New York recording studio for a week, the two musicians each arrived with an armful of new tunes written just for this occasion along with a few older pieces by both. The six day session resulted in what Pat has called "one of the most truly inspiring and satisfying collaborative occasions I have ever experienced". Look for the CD the last week of August. The music features Metheny/Mehldau duets and performances of Pat with the Brad Mehldau Trio (featuring Larry Grenadier and Jeff Ballard). Watch for tour dates in the US and Europe in the first half of 2007.

a long time ago, maybe four years ago, i was chillin w/ the trio part of the b.m. trio in my car playin' them hank mobley bootlegs after the concert, and the whole time they were all sketched, they were all like:

"i hope *brad* isn't wondering where we are", or "i sure hope *brad* isn't mad we left." lol

Hmmm.....jazz groupie?
