Catching Up With...on AAJ Forum

Yet another wow. As someone who has spent the vast majority of my time on AAJ, Ricci's PM really makes me wonder.

One thing I have noticed about this site, which I like a lot, is that more people seem to be interested in "old" jazz. That's a big plus for me. Two examples would be the Diz/Bird Uptown release, which got major press here, with hardly any attention on AAJ, and the current Don Ellis thread here. I couldn't imagine a Don Ellis thread at AAJ. Still, I have many friends over there.... I suppose I'll just have to try to keep up with both. Don't confuse the guy who runs AAJ with the members-- there are lots of great people over there.

Personally, I think that the "catching up with" feature is great idea and is certainly one which belongs..........................................on AAJ. My initial thoughts when I saw the thread title were - leave it on AAJ - no need to duplicate it here. I like the atmosphere here and I like the fact that musicians, jazz critics/authors/producers and regular guys like me can co-exist in an atmosphere that is free of stratification.

I've checked out some of the Catching up withs on AAJ. The Osby one is very good. The Tom Evered one sucked. Some of the other guys I'm not too familiar with. Nonetheless, my opinion remains the same - it's nice...............for AAJ.

Then, upon hearing about the adverstising link and Ricci's comment to Chuck. all I can say is thanks to Jim and Organissimo for this board and to Jim Dye for the Back Room.

I think it's best simply to link to the "Catching Up With" interviews already on AAJ. Unlike certain other board moderators, Jim A. and co. are totally cool about other boards and see them all as part of a broad jazz online community. The other boards... well, it's like I said to Jim A. and Joe at the gig in Saugatuck: Organissimo is like the sexy girl that all the women try to keep their guys away from.
