CJ Shearn Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 for 4 of the 5 tunes, do unedited takes exist somewhere in the Verve vaults? I am very happy the CD is out, but if unedited tracks existed, why didn't they use the restored versions like the "Root Down" reissue. It seems to me Verve/Universal didn't wanna take the time to research any unedited tracks from one of Jimmy Smith's best albums. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Yeah, it's a part of the LP reissue series, and they're just doing lp facimiles. . . . My guess is that the edits could have probably been restored if this was in a different series and had a different producer (and it would cost 19 bucks!) Quote

Michael Cuscuna specifically mentioned this series as an afront to the reissue community in a recent interview. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted August 29, 2005 Author Report Posted August 29, 2005 (edited) I would have paid for an expanded reissue as well, but I am glad to just own the music, its a JOS album I play quite frequently. Isn't the LPR series and offshoot of the Verve By Request series which began as LP reissues anyway? Edited August 29, 2005 by CJ Shearn Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 The "LP reproduction" idea is so stupid - if you want an LP, buy an LP. A new format should take advantage of what is possible, not become stuck (by choice, no less) with the limitations of the original issue. I'm just waiting to see 78s reissued with one track on each CD, so you get the "real" experience of getting up every three minutes. More importantly, where was the Cuscuna interview? Mike Quote
Soul Stream Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 More importantly, where was the Cuscuna interview? Mike ← I'll try and remember. Seems like it was in one of the more recent national jazz rags.... Quote
