Has anyone here come across it? J.O.S. ← I haven't, but haven't been looking. I wonder if one of the jazz scholars on the board would have any advice about locating something of this nature. Michael Fitzgerald perhaps? Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cocoon/ihas/loc.natl...58/default.html Finding a copy is more difficult. Mike Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 24, 2005 Author Report Posted August 24, 2005 (edited) It has to exist somewhere. The search is part of the fun of having it. I will still do my hunting. Edited August 24, 2005 by Hardbopjazz Quote
CJ Shearn Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 I would be VERY interested in this should a copy turn up. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 is this a live performance of JOS? Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 (edited) Just going on the details known, it sounds like a documentary based around the fall 1965 European tour. I would imagine there is performance footage as well as other things. Mike P.S. if you want straight performance by this same trio, try looking for the BBC TV "Jazz 625" show. That's from the spring 1965 tour. Edited August 24, 2005 by Michael Fitzgerald Quote
Adam Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 Originally made for West German TV in 1965? Any of our German friends want to check the ZDF site, or call the ZDF Archives. Or any of the other TV channels around then? http://www.zdf.de/ZDFde/inhalt/0/0,1872,1000000,00.html This will end up being like that Ray Charles concert in Rio recently released by Rhino Video, originally shot for Brazilian TV. couw Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 not ZDF, but NDR and not much hope for getting a copy from them. They do provide recordings of recent broadcasts, but not of archive material. The good news is that it's a documentary and not concert footage, as they do not provide copies of concerts at all. Quote

Hardbopjazz Posted August 1, 2006 Author Report Posted August 1, 2006 This may be getting issued. The person that has it, wrote to me, that it just might be coming out on DVD. It was rebroadcast last year on TV and may be making it to a store near you. If it is not being issued, it will be seeded on dime, otherwise we will need to go and buy it when it gets issued. Either way, it seems to be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Quote
DMP Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Jimmy Smith is in one of those Sam Katzman-style '60's rock & roll/ski party type movies (along with the Animals and Stan Getz) - that's the one to find. ("Get Yourself a College Girl," or one of those.) Quote
.:.impossible Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 The JOS footage from that flick has been listed on the youtube thread... There is also some early Gary Burton playing behind Getz. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 15, 2006 Author Report Posted August 15, 2006 I've watched this film 2 times now and enjoyed it very much. There not much playing. It is more the life of Jimmy Smith as he toured Europe in 1965. Quote
