Joe G Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Actual conversation I once had with a friend of mine when I was about 19 or 20: Friend: Kenny G is the greatest saxophonist ever! Me: What about, like, John Coltrane? Friend: Aw, fuck that shit! :rsly: I'm sure he'd laugh about that now... I hope! Quote
DTMX Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 I flew from Atlanta to Minneapolis to see Ornette Coleman and when the shuttle bus entered the city, one of the first things I saw was a billboard advertising Kenny-geez upcoming concert at a local casino. I threw up in my mouth a little. Kenny G played in Atlanta during this year's pseudo-jazz festival. Benny Golson, Sonny Fortune and David "Fathead" Newman got rained out but G got sunny weather and played as scheduled. God is cruel. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 Yeah, but wasnt Louis Armstrong there? Or did they bring in the lp to play while G tried to show pops up? Quote
Free For All Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 Kenny G's idea of an Aebersold play-a-long. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 Yup. Funny, he's still puzzled why he doesn't hear Pops counting off each tune on the album. Quote
wesbed Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 This thread is making me want to play some discs from my Louis Armstrong box. I have never been to New Orleans. I need to go there some day. Quote

Kalo Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 Who wants to watch a curly mullet play lame soprano? I can picture his audience, though: like Clinton's cabinet (not to mention Bush II's), it "looks like America." AAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHHH! (As Charles Schulz used to say.) Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 Actual conversation I once had with a friend of mine when I was about 19 or 20: Friend: Kenny G is the greatest saxophonist ever! Coltrane?! Fuck that shit. Honestly, I didn't know Joe when he was 20. I think he even might've had hair back then. Quote
GregN Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Yeah, Jim was 12 at that time... ← I guess I should probably throw out my Kenny G collection now.... <sniff> Quote
