Peter Johnson Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 BN has released a couple of Adderley sides--Domination (with Oliver Nelson's orchestra ) and Money in the Pocket, a live side with his band at The Club in Chicago. What do y'all think of these? Should I pick them up? Thanks. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 I have the vinylzed "Domination." I dig it. I dig all the Balls of that vintage. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted August 16, 2005 Author Report Posted August 16, 2005 Endorsement enough! Thanks, guys! Quote

Eric Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Ramée said: The only problem I have with this reissue is that apparently BN decided to slap the song "Experience In E" to the butt-end of "Domination". This pisses me off because it's basically telling the buyer "we're never going to reissue the full album Experience In E, so we'll patch 1/2 of the album to this one that was recorded 5 years before it" I'm all about bonus tracks, and don't mind when an "orphaned" track winds up attached to a seemingly unrelated session, but it royally pisses me off when they intentionally "orphan" 1/2 of an entire album as if to say "this is about as much of Experience In E that you're ever going to get". Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to buy it.... ← They did something similar with a Duke Pearson album several years ago ... Quote
BruceH Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Damn you, BN!! (Still gonna get it, of course.) Quote
BruceH Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Actually, I was looking at these re-issues just yesterday, and they BOTH look damn good as far as I can tell. Quote
crookednumbers Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 "Money in the Pocket" is smokin' Quote
tranemonk Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 never been a huge Cannonball guy... but I ordered Money in the Pocket.. just to hear that live version of Fidder on the Roof.... Quote
JSngry Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 There's another one on here, with Charles Lloyd in good form: Highly recommended, btw... Quote

Yep, it's a good 'un. Quote

JSngry Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 "All" four Night releases were exceptional, imo, including the Les McCann, which is perhaps the real sleeper of the bunch, containing as it does terrific performances by Stanley Turrentine. Roberta Flack, & Eddie Harris, not all of whom appear with McCann... Quote
Eric Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 (apologze n advance for the typos, my keybard s jacked) Dmnaton has been n heavy rotatn - really a tasty date!!! Quote

JSngry Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Just got done w/Money..., and all I can say is that most of the people who post here are going to want this one. It ain't "perfect", but it damn sure is GOOD. Ignore it at you peril! Quote

bertrand Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 Can we still call them 'sides' in the CD era? Bertrand. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted August 24, 2005 Author Report Posted August 24, 2005 Hell, I still call them "records" in the CD era! Quote
Randy Twizzle Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 My 81 year old mother calls them "music discs" as in "The next time you're in a music store can you look to see if they're any Mandy Patinkin music discs." Quote
Ron S Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 Doesn't "side" refer only to one song or track, anyway? A holdover from the 78 days when a side of a record typically held only one song? What you SHOULD have called them was "albums" (also a holdover from 78 days when several "sides" would be contained in an "album"). Quote
