JSngry Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 "A Remark That You Made", was that about one of his kids? Quote
jazzbo Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 No I think that's about his wife. . .it's based on the changes of "Tiger Rag." Quote
brownie Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Ok, who was "Guy Remark"? ← Guy Remark = Gary Kramer Gary wrote the liner notes for a number of the Atlantic vinyls by Ray Charles. And other Atlantic artists. Kramer was very helpful when I was writing articles about The Great Ray back in the late fifties. Quote
king ubu Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Ok, who was "Guy Remark"? ← Guy Remark = Gary Kramer ... ← reincarnation of E.M. Remarque? Quote
Tjazz Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Wow, what a cute box set. You get the phono player too... Quote
brownie Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Ok, who was "Guy Remark"? ← Guy Remark = Gary Kramer reincarnation of E.M. Remarque? Remark is Kramer spelled backward. Somehow Remarque does not look as good when given the same treatment Quote
Guy Berger Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Uggh, stupid packaging -- almost enough that I want to avoid this thing. It seems a little heavy on outtakes for me, but for for $7x5.99 a bargain nonetheless. Guy Quote
RDK Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Looks to be a fine set. I have a lot of it already though... Quote
J.A.W. Posted August 16, 2005 Author Report Posted August 16, 2005 The set was remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot. Sounds promising. Quote
Harold_Z Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Looks to be a fine set. I have a lot of it already though... ← Same here. Everything except for what's previously unreleased. I wish the new material was available seperately (as if the record companies EVER do that nowadays !). Quote
mikeweil Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Sigh .... I'll wait and see if Zweitausendeins offers this. I have all the previous Atlantic CDs, the Birth of Soul box, the live CD, the jazz CD, the Bags double, and the Fathead .... but the unissued stuff and the DVD looks very tempting, and I prefer the chronological order over all the sessions in the set here ..... Quote
mikeweil Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 ..... I'd say I sell my Bother Ray CDS on eBay to (probably partially) finance the new box. Quote
alankin Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Glad to hear they're including original liner notes and repros of the covers in the set. Quote
JSngry Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Those 70s LPs seem like a prime Rhino Handmade project, no? Hell, they did the crap that was Sly Stone's Warner Bros. recordngs, and lots of other crap too. The 70s RC albums are certainly no worse, and are at times worthy of the earlier Ray Charles Atlantic catalog. Just a matter of time, I'm sure... Quote
