Sundog Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Has Remo Palmieri's late 70's Concord date made it to CD? I've never seen it. Quote
paul secor Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I've never seen Bobby Jones' Hill Country Suite (Enja), The Arrival of Bobby Jones (Cobblestone), or Milt Hinton's Here Swings the Judge (Famous Door) on CD. Quote
JSngry Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Hill Country Suite has been on CD. I got a copy a few mionths ago. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Yes, it's very good. The man really impressed me with Mingus. Quote
paul secor Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Hill Country Suite has been on CD. I got a copy a few mionths ago. ← I have the LP, so I guess I wasn't looking for it. Glad to know it's still out there. Quote
Kreilly Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Roscoe Mitchell's "Solo Saxophone Concerts" on Sackville. I think Sackville returned the tapes to Roscoe 'cause they could not remove the tape print through for cd release. Probably never see a "silvering" of this record. ← Does that mean the tapes are not usable? What are the prospects of making a master from a mint vinyl copy, can that be done with satisfactory results? Just curious, Kevin Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Does that mean the tapes are not usable? What are the prospects of making a master from a mint vinyl copy, can that be done with satisfactory results? Just curious, Kevin ← the "print" is obvious on the vinyl, just a bit obscured by groove noise. Quote
Brad Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I don't know if this has been mentioned (I'm not going back to read all pages) but how about some of Xanadu's Be Bop Revisited. Great series of albums. Quote
paul secor Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Some other possibilities: J.R. Monterose: Welcome Back, J.R.! (Progressive/Japan) J.R. Monterose: Live in Albany (Uptown) Creative Construction Company (Muse) Sonny Stitt: My Mother's Eyes (Pacific Jazz) Quote
Eloe Omoe Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Forgot I have an LP search list on my hard drive: Landmark LLP-502 Lateef, Yusef In Nigeria Muse MR 5052 Hayes, Louis Breath of Life The Landmark LP has been reissued on YAL, Dr. Lateef's own label. Re: the Louis Hayes one, I think it has been reissued on a 32Jazz CD (OOP, of course). Luca Quote
Eloe Omoe Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 ANDRE JAUME: MUSIQUE POUR 8 - L'OC (HAT HUT) SAM RIVERS (HOLLAND, ALTSCHUL): THE QUEST (RED RECORD) The Jaume has been reissued on CD in 1990, but it is out of print now. The Rivers, as far as I know, will be issued on CD in 2006. Luca Quote
Jaffa Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 I don't know if it's been mentioned - but one I just LOVE: Doc Horse (Al Pittman) with Sammy Price and his Bluesicians, Kapp-LP KS-3267. In case it's available on CD: Run and get it ! I think it's terrific from A to Z. Opinions anyone ? Quote

David Ayers Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Creative Construction Company (Muse) There was a Japanese issue which (I believe) only included Volume 1. I agree that a 2on1 CD release would work well. That said, the LPs sell for a modest price and while it is certainly interesting I'm not sure sure it would make much money for whoever reissues it. Bluesman Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 The one recording I REALLY want to see on CD is Yusef Lateef's A Flat, G Flat and C on Impulse. Given that everything else he did on Impulse is reissued I can't understand why his greatest record is still unavailable. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 why is that yusefs best? even better than live at peps vol2? whos on it, what songs does he do? Quote
randyhersom Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 There was a Chiaroscuro Frank Wright album (raised eyebrow) that featured Eddie Jefferson on vocals (jaw drop). Am I right that that never made CD? Quote
felser Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 (edited) A bunch of good Cobblestone/Muse titles by Jimmy Heath ('The Gap Sealer', and the next one) and Carlos Garnett ('Journey to Enlightenment' and 'Let This Melody Ring On'). I also heard Garnett do a phenomenal live version of "Mystery of Ages", which was not fulfilled on the big band record. There are also some really good mid-70's Italian LP's by Archie Shepp, George Adams, and Don Pullen. There was a 2 LP set by Shepp that had an amazing live version of "African Drums" on it. The first album by Hannibal Peterson. The Eric Kloss Muse LP with Peterson on it. Gary Bartz Live at the Left Bank on Milestone. Any of the remaining McCoy Tyner's. The Elektra Musician Woody Shaw's. Non-jazz, the Richie Havens titles on Douglas ('Electric Havens' and 'Richie Havens Record' - he hates them.) and on Stormy Forest. The Bobby Hutcherson stuff with Harold Land (Blue Note) and the Harold Land stuff with Bobby Hutcherson (Mainstream). The Mainstream Buddy Terry's. Edited July 20, 2006 by felser Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 The three Larry Bunker Quartette 'Live at Shelly's Manne-Hole' LPs w/Gary Burton, Mike Wofford & Bob West is enjoyable material and would make a nice double-cd package. Who owns the Vault & Interplay material??? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Who owns the Vault & Interplay material??? Interplay is/was(?) owned by Tosh Taenaka. I understand the "possession" of the tapes is a jumbled mess as the result of an ugly divorce. I have also heard Toshiya is in poor health. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Has Remo Palmieri's late 70's Concord date made it to CD? I've never seen it. Remo Palmier's self-titled LP for Concord hasn't been reissued on CD and is doubtful to appear unless the current label owners license it to someone else. Quote
Bluesman Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 why is that yusefs best? even better than live at peps vol2? whos on it, what songs does he do? I love Pep's but have very fond memories of A Flat, G Flat and C and always assumed it would be reissued. It is entirely blues based and that suits my taste.
