I just looked, and nothing about Muse except a mention of that dubious release in the liner notes. Orignal source, leader, and cover art all as they should be. Quote
Brad Posted January 13, 2021 Report Posted January 13, 2021 King Curtis’ Sweet Soul has only been issued as a LP. Some very good supporting musicians. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted January 14, 2021 Report Posted January 14, 2021 I always thought the microphone used to record "Turkish Women at the Bath" was actually IN a bath(room). Quote

You're second with that one, Bresna! The late Humphrey Lyttelton, whose wit is sorely missed, used to say that "in super Hi-Fi" meant "re-recorded in a bathroom". Quote
EKE BBB Posted January 14, 2021 Author Report Posted January 14, 2021 This rare James P. Johnson disc has never been reissued as CD. It includes alternative takes to several solo and group performances not released elsewhere - XTRA (E) 1024, James P. Johnson Quote

Since American was largely a studio for hire and their work appeared on a number of labels it can be challenging to get a sense of their work overall, certainly more so than for Stax or even Muscle Shoals/Fame. And after Chips Moman closed shop most of 'em moved to Nashville and get paid 3 times as much to do less creative work. I recently picked up a Petula Cark LP that was recorded at American, not sure if it ever made it to CD. Quote

Dub Modal Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 Searched but didn't see this mentioned: Snooky Young's Horn of Plenty doesn't look to have had a CD release, nor any repress of its initial LP pressing back in '79. Line up includes Ray Brown, Jack Hanna, John Collins & Ross Tompkins. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted February 19, 2021 Report Posted February 19, 2021 One of the greatest jazz albums ever made is "Blue Martini" by John Neel and Plas Johnson, on the AVA label. Someone needs to reissue this. Quote

GA Russell Posted February 19, 2021 Report Posted February 19, 2021 Why don't they make album covers like that anymore? Quote

DMP Posted June 19, 2021 Report Posted June 19, 2021 Has Dick Grove’s “Little Bird Suite “ (Pacific Jazz) ever resurfaced? I recall being underwhelmed at the time, but think maybe I underestimated it. Quote

DMP Posted July 3, 2021 Report Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) Shirley Scott’s “Everybody Loves a Lover” (Impulse), although a several of the tracks showed up on the CD issue of Stanley Turrentine, “Let It Go.” Recorded around the same time (and with pretty much the same personnel) as “Blue Flames” and Turrentine’s “Hustlin’”. I'll wait until I get my new EQ, which is being shipped. Is this the same Dick Grove who gives piano lessons on YouTube? From 1963. Kennedy is still president, and the Beatles had not yet @#$%ed everything up. Edited July 11, 2021 by Teasing the Korean Quote
