BFrank Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Just pick up the Mosaic before it goes OOP. You'll get that PLUS a ga-zillion other sessions all at once. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Yeah, it's good. So's the "Swings Cole Porter with Billy May". So's pretty much everything on the Mosaic. It's her prime period. But if you aren't going to get the Mosaic, grab a few of the Verves! Quote
JSngry Posted October 22, 2016 Report Posted October 22, 2016 Watch the face-acting on this one...every look perfect for before, during, and after an encounter with the police. Taht's not said with even the least bit of snark either, but with the fullest respect. Quote
miles65 Posted October 22, 2016 Report Posted October 22, 2016 Thanks for posting this. I just love Anita O'Day Quote
ArtSalt Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Love a bit of Miss O'Day, Anita Sings The Most is my favourite Verve outing. The earlier stuff is great too, she sounded wonderful in her youth as well as in her mature prime. Quote

Superb Gary McFarland arrangements, an atypical song selection, and Anita's vocals. This time of year, for some reason, I tend to listen to a lot of jazz/pop vocal Great American Songbook stuff, and this is always one of the first albums I reach for. Quote

JSngry Posted November 4, 2016 Report Posted November 4, 2016 Yeah, me too. I'm not an O'Day "buff", but I do like her, and those McFarland charts could easily block off a less empathetic and/or skilled singer. Not Ms. O'Day, she dealt! Quote
mikeweil Posted November 4, 2016 Report Posted November 4, 2016 Only the real greats can deal with such an unexpected, unfamiliar context, and she definitely could. It's amazing how different the albums are that McFarland wrote for O'Day, Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, and Bill Evans, and they all responded and could keep their musical selves. Quite an achievement on both sides. Quote
BFrank Posted November 5, 2016 Report Posted November 5, 2016 Time for me to pull that box out again! Quote
