Jim Alfredson Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 Speaking of posters... we'll be having another signing party soon so I can send those out. Sorry it's taken so long, but they are here now! Quote
Jazz Kat Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 I just got a get a c-note on my next gig before I can buy it. Quote
king ubu Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Just chiming in quickly here... I got the disc - thanks a lot! - and gave it a few spins so far, didn't take any notes or so, and didn't really find time to sit down and really listen, but I love the disc so far! The groove on the first cut is terrific! And yes, Randy's harmonica is very soulful! Tenderly... yup, it's nice! All in all, the album is more diverse, and going places, yet there's a shitload of funk and dirty grooves, too - a great mix! 'fraid I haven't made it to the end, so I haven't heard the Zappa cut yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to giving the disc many more spins! Keep cookin'! And make sure to inform us early enough when that European trip is going to happen! One more thing: I love the organ sound on the first track - it's fat and greazy, yet not *just* that, but it has - maybe I need a new set of ears... - touches of the lighter approach, of say a Larry Young, too, and all that at the same time - like it a lot! Jim Dye Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 It brought back fond memories of my youth in Mason... mullets, corndogs, goat poop.... ... um ... ok, maybe not so fond. ← Sounds like you picked a name for your next album. Mullets, Corndogs, Goat Poop... Organissimo, Live at the Ingham County Fairgrounds! Quote
king ubu Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Two more things to add: Jon - congrats on the great artwork! Looks terrific! And second: I love the sound of the disc a lot! That "like live" sound, warmth and all, that's cool, and so far from many of those clinically clean sounding new releases! Quote
Theo Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Alright, if you people are going to continue to dis Mason, it was not goat poop - it was pig poop! this is important so get it right, ok? Jim, don't forget us with the posters - I am collecting this stuff so when you are millionaires I can sell it for the big bucks. Love, Dad Quote
Joe G Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Oh, Mason was a fine place to grow up. Small town charm and all that. I used to ride my bike all over town, poke around the banks of Sycamore Creek, and sled down the hill behind our house in the winter. And yes, I went to the Ingham County Fair and rode those rickety-ass rides. And whether I was grounded (usually for grades ) or not, I'd just as often be in my room, playing guitar, listening to records, or reading Jack London. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Call of the Wild Goat Poop, no doubt... Quote
Theo Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Well, whatever you did, Joe, the guitar playing is second to none. You are without a doubt the best I have ever heard, and I have heard some major dudes. Go for it, my friend. And don't be dissin' Mason: I could have lived in Akron. Wahooo! Quote

Ron S Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Did I miss something somewhere? You mean, like, your uvula? Can you sing with vibrato? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 I loved growing up in Mason. Sleepy little town, for the most part. However, my assessment of goat poop is correct because I was referring to the fair, not Mason in general. Pig poop was indeed the smell du jour around the Alfredson estate since ol' man Chaney had a pig farm and also spread the shit (har har) on his fields in the spring. But at the fair, there was goat poop galore. And lots of mullets. And corndogs. And elephant ears. And scary "carnies". And such and such. Quote
