wait what was hanks speech that night again? didnt someone here recount that?

I thought I read somewhere that Hank's speech was on the 45 rpm record included on the original "One Night At Blue Note" LP set? Dan Gould picked it up a few years back.

michael, come on, do you remember one thing about how hank was improvising and sounding in that whole Hank Mobley experience? was it a quartet INCLUDING the singer, or was there a piano player too? Pressing into riskier memory territory, do you remember which ones of hanks old songs he played, if any?

At the Angry Squire gig he could barely get enough air into the horn to play it. Of course there was a piano player. I think it might have been Duke Jordan. I don't think Hank played any original tunes. I believe it was Lodi Carr's gig.

I was there. I believe it was a 2 night gig? The night I was there was definitely Duke Jordan on piano and I remember Hank sounding better for the second set - more like Hank. I also vividly remember going over to the Jazz Baroness' table to meet Mobley and ask him to sign a small black and white promo photo, which he signed "Peace and Love, Hank Mobley." I feel bad I don't remember the rest of the musicians there and sad to say I don't remember Lodi Carr. Nothing against them - I was just in a trance of disbelief that I was actually in the same room as Hank Mobley and getting to hear him live with Duke Jordan.

Marla

I was at the Angry Squire November 22, 1985 and saw Mobley, Duke Jordan, Jimmy Rowser (bass), Verniel Fournier (drums) and singer Lodi Carr for the second set. First tune was "Blues Walk" ...Hank's playing was as shadow of his prior self....clearly a great effort for him to play at all...out of tune...reed problems...short phrases...stumbing...but his musical personality was still there. Tragic. I heard somebody has a tape out there. A year prior I met Hank who was visiting (not playing) the Vanguard to hear the Mel Lewis Orchestra on a Monday night... I asked Hank how to contact him, he said "go to the corner of [intersection in Philadelphia I can't remember] and ask for me." I later heard that he was homeless at that time.

I found this on Youtube a recording of Hank at the Angry Squire gig:

I have the 4 original CD's and DVD, I wish Mosaic would release a set of the COMPLETE concert. There's a whole bunch of stuff like a entire Blakey set that was rejected, "Moanin" was the only released title from that set for some reason.
