Free For All Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 I was watching The Fugitive (for the umpteenth time- I love the Chicago shots) and noticed a credit at the end saying "sax solos by Wayne Shorter". I went back and listened carefully and sure enough, there are a lot of Wayne "noodlings" throughout the movie that you hardly notice if you aren't listening closesly. Also, speaking of Wayne, did we discuss Glengarry Glen Ross? There is some great Wayne in the opening theme and some nice stuff throughout the movie. Nice version of Blue Skies at the end. Quote
PHILLYQ Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 In 'White Men Can't Jump', Jon Hendricks is singing at the beach as the Woody Harrelson character approaches. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Didn't Bennie Wallace do the music to that film? Quote

BTW Did Glengary also have a version of Prelude to a Kiss featuring Pete Chrislieb or am I confusing it with another soundtrack I heard at about the same time? (Maybe the film entitled Prelude to a Kiss.) Quote

(Maybe the film entitled Prelude to a Kiss.) ← PTAK was indeed from Glengarry (featuring the Bill holman band). Regarding the film Prelude to a Kiss, there are several scenes in it that were shot in Chicago's famous Green Mill. As a matter of fact in one scene you can clearly see owner Dave Jemilo in the background sitting at the bar smoking a cigarette (and he doesn't smoke! I guess he was "acting"). Quote
DukeCity Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 bumped to revise my earlier post about Cannonball Adderley appearing in an episode of the TV show Kung Fu. In the 30 years since I saw it, the image got a little skewed. He's not in a sombrero and poncho. He's wearing a top hat and playing...wait for it..."Camptown Races", and he's jamming with...wait for it again... Jose Feliciano!!! You can check out a clip of it here scroll to the bottom of the page, do some clicking, and enjoy! Quote
RDK Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 Has it been mentioned?: Chico Hamilton's score for Polanski's Repulsion. Quote
king ubu Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 Has it been mentioned?: Chico Hamilton's score for Polanski's Repulsion. Great acting by Deneuve in that film! One of her most impressive roles, in my opinion! And the soundtrack fits in perfectly well! But then, speaking Polanski soundtracks, his yurpean films with music by Komeda are still his best ones, from the early shorts to "Knife in the Water" - dig Ballad for Bernt! - and "Cul de sac"... great ones! I just caught "Alfie", starring Michael Caine, with a very nice soundtrack courtesy of Sonny Rollins. Another perfect match, I shall say! Quote
Rosco Posted December 8, 2005 Author Report Posted December 8, 2005 Has it been mentioned?: Chico Hamilton's score for Polanski's Repulsion. A film I've always meant to get around to, but never have. One more reason to get it! Quote
Rosco Posted December 8, 2005 Author Report Posted December 8, 2005 I just caught "Alfie", starring Michael Caine, with a very nice soundtrack courtesy of Sonny Rollins. Another perfect match, I shall say! The soundtrack is aging remarkably better than the movie IMHO. Though IIRC the actual music included in the film was recorded with different (British) musicians to the version released on Impulse. Quote
king ubu Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 I enjoyed "Alfie" a whole lot, I have to say! Caine's just terrific in it! Quote

patricia Posted December 10, 2005 Report Posted December 10, 2005 (edited) I've always loved the Elmer Bernstein soundtrack from "Walk On The Wild Side", which was a totally forgettable film, starring Barbara Stanwick and Laurence Harvey. It re-introduced me to jazz and I have not only that soundtrack, but every version of the title track recorded by almost everyone before and since. Jimmy Smith's is my favourite. I even have a vocal version by Brook Benton. Edited December 10, 2005 by patricia Quote
Ken Dryden Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 I enjoyed Gerry Mulligan's unaccompanied soundtrack to I'm Not Rappaport. I seem to remember that he played baritone sax, soprano sax and clarinet in spots, one instrument at a time. I enjoyed it more than the movie. Quote
