slide_advantage_redoux Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I was thinking about bassist/groovemeister Wayne Dockery lately and was wondering what he is up to. Is he still active as a player...healthy, etc? Anybody know? Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Yes, still active, no problems that I know of. Plays with Bobby Few, Zusaan Kali Fasteau, and others. Mike Quote
Late Posted August 13, 2022 Report Posted August 13, 2022 I didn't realize/know until today that Wayne Dockery's older brother was Sam Dockery, the pianist. Dig Wayne with Charles Tolliver in France, 1971: Quote
Mark Stryker Posted August 14, 2022 Report Posted August 14, 2022 Never knew they were brothers either. Interesting! Quote

Sam Dockery I only know from a Blakey LP from 1957 "Plays Lerner and Lowe" which I got coincidentally in the 70´s while looking for a Blakey Album..... Well, nice pianist, but I didn´t hear nothing so special, I mean compared with other pianists who played with Blakey or vice versa. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 17, 2022 Report Posted August 17, 2022 I didn't know they were related either. Quote
Caravan Posted August 18, 2022 Report Posted August 18, 2022 Some fine Sam Dockery solo piano (and talking) here: https://freshairarchive.org/guests/sam-dockery Always had a weak spot for Sam Dockery ever since I first heard him in the early 1960s. Quote
