ASNL77
Does somebody know if they re-issue new JRVGs every year? Unless I am mistaken, I don't think there has been anything new for quite a while now.
Brad
All those formerly Savoy issues are now Columbia issues. Anybody know why that is?
J.A.W.
All those formerly Savoy issues are now Columbia issues. Anybody know why that is? ← That's Nippon Columbia (Nippon = Japan), not Columbia/Sony. Nippon Columbia is an entirely different company. Edited July 29, 2005 by J.A.W. J.A.W.
P.S. I have several older Nippon Columbia Savoy releases, such as Milt Jackson's: Meet Milt Jackson - Columbia COCB-50415 The Jazz Skyline - Columbia CY-78997 Jackson's Ville - Columbia COCY-78530 These are all mini-LP sleeve reissues, but as far as I know the forthcoming releases come in jewel cases. Tony Pusey
personally, I am very happy that these Savoys are about to be releasesd. Having come late to Jazz (ie after the Denon program) I think this is one label that cries out for a decent reissue program. all I can find have been a bewildering series of repackagings with crummy cover art. A few years ago I did manage to get a very few albums released through Atlantic, but could never even find a complete list of these releases.Hope this is only the first raft. Swinging Swede
Does somebody know if they re-issue new JRVGs every year? Unless I am mistaken, I don't think there has been anything new for quite a while now. ← Haven't read anything official, but I think we have seen the last JRVGs. Toshiba seems to be very busy with the new TOCJ-24 series instead. 140 Blue Note titles have already been released in a year, and another 160 titles have been announced up to March 2006! Son-of-a-Weizen
personally, I am very happy that these Savoys are about to be releasesd. Having come late to Jazz (ie after the Denon program) I think this is one label that cries out for a decent reissue program. I agree.........but I'd also like to see them spit out a few other Savoys like Bley's 'Footloose' and Kenny Clarke's 'Klook's Clique'. At least that Bley was out in circulation for a short while as a mini-lp, the Clarke hasn't ever been available as a cd. I don't know if Bley's 'Floater Syndrome' is still around? ..be nice to have that one in circulation again. They can fix the typo that says it was recorded on September 12, 1693. J.A.W.
They can fix the typo that says it was recorded on September 12, 1693. Well, it did sound a bit dated, didn't it...
