couw Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 (edited) Gotta say, SS1 has taken this well, but to be honest I'm offended that someone with as few posts as you would be so disrespectful to such a veteran poster and valuable forum member as Soulstation1. ← Ah, stuff it man. SS1 should learn to control himself as much as tatifan. It is pretty crappy to stumble on nontopical posts all of the time. May this very post be an example. Edited August 7, 2005 by couw Quote

I have purchased discounted Mosaic sets that were released by Mosaic for general sale, but I stick to retailers I've done business with in the past. Quote
Brad Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Where the hell is this comin' from, especially from a guy who's been here for 5 minutes. Quote
tatifan Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 (edited) Oh well, sorry to all. Don't know why it came out so nastily, didn't really understand what was being done or not done to the thread, went away for the weekend and....eek! Was a very bad hair day! desertblues Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Getting back to the Anita O'Day Mosaic for a minute (hope I don't piss someone off), after listening to most of this over the weekend I'm really glad I took the plunge! My feeling was this was gonna be too "pop-ish" for my taste; boy was I wrong! I would think most on this board would be pleased with this one; it will definitely get a lot of play here. Quote

Not that there's anything wrong with it. Quote

Brad Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 I called Mosaic just now and while they didn't give me a number they think it'll be gone in two weeks. Quote
tranemonk Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 I agree with you about that tune... But there's SO MUCH good to great stuff... I kinda ignored that one... Why do I have a feeling that was a producer's decision to make her sing that one...? BFrank Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Of course in a collection this size there's bound to be at least a few bloopers included. Especially when it's a "complete" set. That just comes with the territory. I bet there's a very high ratio of quality tunes to thow-aways, anyway. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Nothing wrong with most of it, but I can live without "The Rock and Roll Waltz". ← Okay, that one could have been left off, admittedly. But hell, it's not as bad as the "obligatory shitty goofball song" Emerson, Lake and Palmer used to include on each album... Quote

What a piece of shit, that fourth side. Quote
BFrank Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Or - some would argue - the 5th disk of the Gerald Wilson set. I've been so afraid to listen to it, I haven't even broken the shrink-wrap yet. Quote

I've been so afraid to listen to it, I haven't even broken the shrink-wrap yet. ← Is this the disk that contains the pop tunes (such as 'Light My Fire')? On my first listen to the Gerald Wilson box I disliked the pop tunes very much. On subsequent listens, however, I've learned a new respect for Wilson's pop tunes. The pop tunes are not the best of the set but they are enjoyable. Wilson did well at taking the pop tunes and making a big band of them. When my mood is right I enjoy the hell out of Wilson's pop arrangements. Still, yes, I'd rather hear Gerald Wilson do jazz. Edited August 9, 2005 by wesbed Quote
BFrank Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Yeah, that's the one. I've heard both sides of this argument about the pop tunes. I'll get around to listening to it eventually. I'll probably even like it. Quote

If I remember correctly, I purchased the Gerald Wilson box on 'your' recommendation. Thanks, by the way. Edited August 9, 2005 by wesbed Quote
