Eric Posted August 31, 2021 Author Report Posted August 31, 2021 Well, 16 years after starting this thread - nothing - never seen it for sale. I will check back in 2037. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 31, 2021 Report Posted August 31, 2021 Full album can be heard on YouTube… Some/many/all(?) of the individual tracks have been uploaded there as well (different YouTube users). Quote
felser Posted August 31, 2021 Report Posted August 31, 2021 Thanks, have never heard of this one. Quote

Shrdlu Posted September 17, 2021 Report Posted September 17, 2021 Vitous is another bassist with fine intonation. I first heard him on Chick Corea's "Now He Sings" album, where he is amazing (and uncredited on the LP, as was Roy Haynes). Joe Zawinul said his intonation was bad, but I never heard him sound bad. Rooster_Ties Posted October 27, 2022 Report Posted October 27, 2022 Here’s another one, very low opening bid required ($6), but $18 shipping from Japan. Who knows what the final price will come to. https://www.ebay.com/itm/364027141917 Quote

I set up an eBay auto-search, that emails me whenever a new particular match is listed — so if happen to notice the next email (in a month, or 3 months, or who-knows-when), I’ll try and post it here. clifford_thornton Posted March 27, 2023 Report Posted March 27, 2023 I feel like this LP has come down a bit in price and seems to surface more often now... Quote
Milestones Posted March 27, 2023 Report Posted March 27, 2023 My understanding is that Vitous dropped out of WR due to his supposed inability to play funk. And I imagine he found Zawinul to be a prick at times (maybe lots of times). Anyway, Vitous was much valued by the late Chick Corea, and I think we can safely say that Chick knew and hired outstanding bassists. Quote

This is… a fair assessment of his strengths and weaknesses? He’s great at a lot of things but wasn’t well suited for WR’s post-1972 music. 8 hours ago, Milestones said: And I imagine he found Zawinul to be a prick at times (maybe lots of times). Also a fair assessment (along with “serial bullshitter”) Quote

Dub Modal Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 Yeah, seems right up Real Gone Music or Jazz Dispensary's alley. Quote
JSngry Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 I'm going with the notion that the money was funny in the first place and nobody wants to open that up today. Quote

Theories on possibly how so? They were all signed to Columbia at the time in one form or another. Quote
JSngry Posted March 29, 2023 Report Posted March 29, 2023 So? Those were individual contracts not relevant to this one session. And when was Billy Cobham signed to Columbia at all? Quote

JSngry Posted March 29, 2023 Report Posted March 29, 2023 Those were bands, not Billy Cobham. That's not how it works Quote

That's not how it works It does (or at least did) sometimes, hence the famous Epic/Atlantic Graham Nash (Hollies to CSN) for Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield to Poco) negotiated trade of 1969. Maybe jazz was different under Columbia. Quote
JSngry Posted March 29, 2023 Report Posted March 29, 2023 Billy Cobham appears courtesy of Columbia Records When? Quote
