Z-Man Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 Does anyone have pertinent info on John Handy's "Quote Unquote", Roulette Birdland Series 52124? The liner notes on the LP jacket state Julian Euell - b, Edgar Bateman - d, Walter Bishop - p, and Don Friedman "featured on No Coast". There is a trumpet player prominent on the date with no credit. Any info much appreciated..... Quote

robviti Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 up, just because i'm listening to the double lp in the vernacular, and wishing that someone would remaster and reissue this wonderful music on cd. original cover of first of two sessions on reissue Quote
Guy Berger Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 I really want to hear Handy's Roulette recordings... alas it seems too unpopular for a Connoisseur, and too short for a Mosaic Select. Guy Quote
robviti Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 perhaps our new friends at mighty quinn might be interested. Quote
felser Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 I really want to hear Handy's Roulette recordings... alas it seems too unpopular for a Connoisseur, and too short for a Mosaic Select. Guy ← Mosaic could make a select by combining the three Handy Roulette albums with Charles Mingus's 'Mingus in Wonderland', which was on UA and featured Handy. "The Complete Roulette and UA Small Group Recordings of John Handy" (don't think I'm missing anything that EMI controls rights to, but I'm sure someone will let me know). I'd buy the thing immediately. Quote
Tony Pusey Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Dont think that Sue Mingus would be very happy about your idea Felser! but I too would like very much to see Handys Roulettes available in some form. Quote
robviti Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 while i'd like to hear the date with Bishop, Euell, and Bateman, the first two roulettes would fit nicely on one cd. Quote
