I bought this the other day and can't get it off of my mind or my CD player. This is just some of the baddest of the bad. To think, I use to AVOID that CTI stuff...what a huge mistake that was.

Keep Your Soul Together (Freddie with Junior Cook, George Cables, Ron Carter) is another one on CTI to keep an eye out for.

I like a number of the CTI Freddie Hubbard albums--Red Clay, First Light, and Sky Dive...but Straight Life is probably the best one for strict jazz fans.

There are definitely a lot of CTI albums jazz fans should avoid, but I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't know, Soul Stream.

Agreed, but this is a costly cd. I paid over $20 for mine. Available only in Japanese editions, i believe.

I've always had a soft spot for the 1978 Columbia release Super Blue. An obvious attempt to recreate some of his CTI days that for the most part worked out pretty well IMHO.

Not sure if it's in print though. My CD copy is an import that I purchased quite some time ago.

Too bad Columbia did not include this one in the upcoming batch of re-issues ...

A couple of the tracks made it to CD on the cleverly titled "Jazz Moods - Hot" Hubbard compilation of last year. It is actually an excellent CD - includes a bunch of CTI tracks in addition to the Super Blue tracks.

I don't have the CD of this one, just my LP, but it's on my wantlist. The first time I was able to see Freddie was after this came out, and he kept us waiting (for both sets) but the second set he played a great version of Shades of Trane from this LP (George Cables on electric piano, but alas no Junior Cook).
