Claude Schlouch Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 Hi folks, What happens to the Baldwin Street Music site? It had begun a complete collection on Miss Lee Wiley and since about two years anything more. Any information will be welcomed. Thanks! Claude Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 I wrote to them regarding some proposed material involving Tony Fruscella and Gene DiNovi and received no response. This was several years ago. Mike Quote
jazzbo Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 (edited) I have all four volumes of the Lee Wiley released, and hope there will be more. . . I also have the Bill Harris items; a very nice label, hope they can be revived/will reappear with new releases. Volume 4 of the Wiley was released February 2004, so it has only been a year and a quarter that they have been AWOL, at the most. Edited July 7, 2005 by jazzbo Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 My non-response was two years ago to the day. I did not follow up afterwards and have never heard back. Mike Quote
jazzbo Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 Okay, maybe they don't like you! They've only been absent from the new release rack for 17 months at the most. . . . Quote
Don Brown Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 I see Ted Ono every Friday at our regular mid-day gathering. I'll pass on your concerns. I do know he's currently working on on the next Lee Wiley as well as a Nat Pierce collection. There are other things in the works as well, but I don't know if I'm at liberty to mention them at this time. The reason for the hiatus in operations is a major move and ensuing renovations. Quote
Claude Schlouch Posted July 8, 2005 Author Report Posted July 8, 2005 Thanks Don for the good news. Quote
Don Brown Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 Talked to Ted Ono this afternoon. Everything's moving ahead just fine. The next Lee Wiley is just about ready and another Bea Wain is in the works. Quote
Don Brown Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 (edited) Oh, and something I forgot to mention, Lon: Ted laughed when I told him that you thought it had been 17 months since the last Baldwin Street release. Maxine Sullivan/The 1950s "Swinging Miss Loch Lomond" 1952-1959/BJH-314 came out six months ago. Edited July 9, 2005 by Don Brown Quote
jazzbo Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 Well to be fair, I looked at the last release I personally bought, the latest Lee Wiley, which was released in February 2004 and said this: "They've only been absent from the new release rack for 17 months at the most. . . ." I missed seeing any titles released after that date. Quote
Don Brown Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Ted is also working on a collection of vocals by Dolores O'Neil. Quote
Claude Schlouch Posted July 22, 2007 Author Report Posted July 22, 2007 Hi folks, What happens to the Baldwin Street Music site? Any information will be welcomed. Thanks! Claude Quote
Don Brown Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 Just received the following email from Ted Ono: "Will you let them know the following: I am preparing to begin producing a new series of Baldwin Street Music releases and continuing the Lee Wiley Completists' series on Tono (including reissuing the first four volumes). My new website www.tedono.com will be launched in September. Thanks" Quote
king ubu Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 That's fairly good news, so there's still hope... I still need the details for vol. 3 of the Wiley - hasn't been up on the baldwinstreet-site before it was gone, I think? Anyone has the details? Quote
Claude Schlouch Posted July 25, 2007 Author Report Posted July 25, 2007 Very good news. Thanks folks! Quote
northbreed Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Just received the following email from Ted Ono: "Will you let them know the following: I am preparing to begin producing a new series of Baldwin Street Music releases and continuing the Lee Wiley Completists' series on Tono (including reissuing the first four volumes). My new website www.tedono.com will be launched in September. Thanks" MR. BROWN (OR ANYONE ELSE): WOULD YOU PLEASE CLEAR UP THE ONGOING MYSTERY SURROUNDING TED ONO? THIS GENTLEMAN HAS DEVELOPED AN IRRITATING HABIT OF PROMISING AND NEVER DELIVERING. FOR EXAMPLE: In 2000, Ono writes in the liner notes for the CD "Bea Wain, Complete Recordings Vol. 1: You Can Depend On Me" that in 2001, Baldwin Street Music "is looking forward to producing next year" new recordings by Miss Wain. RESULT: NOTHING. In 2002, Ono writes in the liner notes for the CD "Bea Wain, Complete Recordings Vol. 2: That's How I Love the Blues" that listeners can expect not only a third-volume CD release of Bea Wain's complete recordings, but also "another Baldwin Street Music release, which will be titled "Meet Beatrice Wain/Bea Wain--The Early Jazz Sides 1934-1937." RESULT IN BOTH CASES: NOTHING. In 2006, Ono contributes a post to allaboutjazz.com, stating that Baldwin Street Music has (and I paraphrase) been on vacation for a year. He also writes that "[his] new company Ted Ono Productions will take over the Baldwin Street Music label on July 1, 2006." RESULT IN BOTH CASES: NOTHING. In 2007, ("the ghost of") Ted Ono speaks and Don Brown transcribes the following post for the organissimo jazz forum: "Will you let [organissimo readers] know the following: I am preparing to begin producing a new series of Baldwin Street Music releases and continuing the Lee Wiley Completists' series on Tono (including reissuing the first four volumes). My new website www.tedono.com will be launched in September." RESULT ACROSS THE BOARD: NOTHING. AND I AM PARTICULARLY PERTURBED AT HIS DROPPING AT LEAST THREE PROMISED BEA WAIN PROJECTS. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHEN THIS ONO FELLOW WILL EVER BE PREPARED TO STAND AND DELIVER? THANKS FOR READING, BRENT ROHDE Quote
king ubu Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 any news here? I could pick up the Sarah Vaughan live disc w/Zawinul, but there's too much stuff in that sale that's going on, and the discs cost too much, so if you won't all tell me it's the greatest vocal disc out there (or close to), I'll have to skip...
