Sundog Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Just heard their version of Mello Yellow. Why haven't I been made aware of these guys? Based on that one song I'm hooked, sign me up, I need it. Killer! Quote

Both tenor players, Artee "Duke" Payne and Thomas Purvis are MF's! Quote
jodigrind Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 My Avatar is there for a reason. This album is one of my all-time favorites. Pure fun and funk. Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 For the jazzier side of the group, try to find their first Cadet album, Raising the Roof. Quote
Sundog Posted July 4, 2005 Author Report Posted July 4, 2005 I'm sure I will be tracking down a bunch of their material before too long. Mellow Yellow, Raising The Roof, and Ducky seem to get consistently good reviews. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 I did an amazon search, couldn't find anyting but two obscure recordings. Quote

Probably the best route is used vinyl? Now, if Mosaic would only..... Quote
Jazz Kat Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 I have no idea what kind of music this is Quote
JSngry Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Mostly "Soul Jazz" of a very gritty, late-60s Chicago organ-band quality. I dig it. Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 ... and don't forget the hit song that Odell penned with Marvin Gaye in the early 80's. I have most of this stuff on vinyl... it's very fun! Quote

jodigrind Posted August 31, 2019 Report Posted August 31, 2019 Does anyone know the personnel on Odell Brown’s 1974 self titled album on Paula Records. Man it is nice. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted August 31, 2019 Report Posted August 31, 2019 I can hardly believe that I haven't chimed in here already. I own both the aforementioned Mellow Yellow and the previously not mentioned Plays Otis Redding. Guys like this are the rank & file/line staff of music, dig it. Quote
