Peter Johnson Posted July 2, 2005 Report Posted July 2, 2005 All right--let's try this again! Great recs on the Bach--thanks--so who do you like playing this magnum opus? I think de Larrocha recorded it three times, and there's also a newish Harmelin recording, but I've heard mixed reviews of it. What do you all think? Quote
mikeweil Posted July 2, 2005 Report Posted July 2, 2005 The Larocha recordings of Spanish composers are held in very high esteem in Europe. Can't go wrong with her here. Either Jean-Francois Heisser or Jean-Joel Barbier, two of my favourite French pianists, did one too, but they are hard to find. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 2, 2005 Report Posted July 2, 2005 The Larocha recordings of Spanish composers are held in very high esteem in Europe. Can't go wrong with her here. I'd suggest one of her earlier recordings. Did she do it 3 times? She became "mannered" in later years. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted July 3, 2005 Author Report Posted July 3, 2005 I got de Larrocha's 1992 recording--a double CD on EMI with a few extra Albeniz pieces at the end of the second disk. It's beautiful so far. Thanks! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I've been more than happy with Larrocha's late 80s version for Decca over the last (nearly) 20 years. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted July 4, 2005 Author Report Posted July 4, 2005 This is a KILLER disc: ← Sorry, Stefan, it's too small to read...what is it? Thanks! Quote
