Michael Fitzgerald Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Yes, still married to Moran. But I think the above is quite inaccurate. Corea was involved as early as 1968, while he was married to his first wife, Joan (of Tones For Joan's Bones). I never heard of any interaction with Moran until 1976. Moran had been with Mahavishnu Orchestra in 1974. Maybe he met her through Scientology. Mike Quote

brownie Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Lee Konitz was interested in scientology at some point but was wise enough to opt out quite a long time ago! Quote
chris olivarez Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 This brings back unhappy memories of attampting to meet Chick after an RTF concert. I was working for a radio station in Phoenix at the time and station employees were invited to a meet and greet for Chick after the show. The catch-the meet and greet was at the Scientology church. When we got there it didn't take long to get very bad vibes. The scientologists could care less that we were just there to say hello to Chick they told us in so many words to join up or get out. Needless to say we left and I never got to meet Chick and to be honest with you I view that as no great loss. Quote
7/4 Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 From the Washington Post: Robbins saw the completed film only recently -- "I think [spielberg] was working on it right up until last week," he says -- and the scene he finds most terrifying is revealing. He is not in it. Neither are the aliens. It's not a moment of massive destruction or massive death. It is, instead, a scene in which Cruise and his children find themselves the target of an out-of-control mob. Quote

take5 Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Don't let that list scare you. They include anyone who's every been "involved" with it in any way. I saw the entry for Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart Simpson) who "learned a lot about it from her acting class." How much more vague can ya get? Also, when the Church of Scientology gives stats on their "members," they include anyone who is on a mailing list. Everyone knows that mailing lists are way bigger than actual memberships to anything. Quote
bertrand Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 (edited) So Stanley Clarke dropped out and has since spoken out? Interesting. I remember also that Lamont Johnson (not on the list) was involved for a while, but wrote a letter to Jazz Times/Down Beat saying he was out and happy to be so. He died soon after, poor guy, just after having released a record with which he hoped to make a comeback. I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Nicole Kidman is most definitely out. Gabor Szabo? In 72, I went with my friend Corky to see RTF open for Bachmann-Turner Overdrive (!?!) outside of Chicago. It seemed that we were the only ones there who just stayed for RTF. Anyway, afterwards, we got to go backstage and meet and talk with Corea. Very nice guy! We were just hanging around while his crew was loading gear and we ended up helping out, then Corea, himself, asked if we lived very far away and whether we needed a lift (not from him, I'm sure). We said we were getting picked up - said goodbye - and off we went. For a couple of young kids, it was exhilarating! --- Now playing: Ike Quebec - Don't Take Your Love From Me Quote

Kalo Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 (edited) And how about this: Modern Library 100 Best non-fiction books of the 20th century, as voted by a Modern Library-appointed panel and by "readers." http://www.randomhouse.com/modernlibrary/1...nonfiction.html The "readers" list (surely not readers of Modern Library books?) is dominated by Ayn Rand and L. Ron Hubbard. Then check out the fiction list: http://www.randomhouse.com/modernlibrary/100bestnovels.html If you do, you'll see that "readers" favor the same two authors's novels.
